For those who grew up in the 1990s, the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers was the best thing since sliced bread. The franchise, originating in Japan, spawned a slew of off-shoots that still carry on to present day with “Super Megaforce.”
As reported by The Inquisitr in May, the franchise is about to head to the big screen. It is not the first, but the third time the Power Rangers have made it to the big screen. However, it will be the second time for the ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers.
The current reported release date is April 2015. According to Variety , this will be a re-envisioning of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. According to KpopStarz, Saban made this announcement:
‘Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level,’ Saban revealed. ‘They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from ‘The Hunger Games’ to ‘Twilight’ and ‘Divergent.’”
So far, there has been no announcement of a finalized cast listing by the film’s producers Saban or Lionsgate, but two of the stars have confirmed their upcoming roles in the new power rangers film.
Chloe Moretz was offered and accepted the role of the Pink Power Ranger. She has since confirmed this, according to Venture Capital Post. Jason David Frank, who has played both the Green and White Power Rangers, will play a role as a “mentor” to the reboot cast. The remainder of the cast has not been officially confirmed but has consistently been making the rounds throughout the internet.
Venture Capitalist Post reports:
Recent reports suggest that the movie will also star Jack Gleeson as ‘Blue Ranger,’ Michael B. Jordan as ‘White/Green Ranger,’ Roshon Feegan as ‘Black Ranger,’ and Jamie Chung as ‘Yellow Ranger’. MADtv comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele will also be part of the cast as ‘Skull’ and ‘Bulk.’ Zack Braff was also reported to play ‘Alpha 5.’ Academy Award winner Meryl Streep is supposed to have accepted the role of evil alien witch, ‘Rita Repulsa.’ ‘Dark Knight Rises’ star Tom Hardy will be ‘Goldar,’ the alien general, while ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ star Michael Fassbender will play evil galactic conqueror, ‘Lord Zedd.”
Other claims suggest Liam Hemsworth will take the Red Ranger role. If all these are confirmed by Saban and Lionsgate, this will be quite the cast to the helm the next chapter in the Power Rangers saga. What do you think about these potential casting choices and casting confirmations?
