As unbelievable as this may sound, if you endured the endless lines to get into Comic-Con 2014 in San Diego this year and saw someone dressed as Spider-Man, you may have actually been looking at Harry Potter–or at least the actor who played him. Daniel Radcliffe couldn’t resist a bit of covert activity during the two day event, where he donned a Spiderman mask and affected an American accent the entire time.
Says Radcliffe about this, “I even took a rucksack so I look like I’m just coming to Comic-Con. I had a whole look. But it was great. I took lots of pictures with people who did not know that it was me.” In addition to posing with unsuspecting guests, the British actor also inserted his Spider-Man-masked face into a poster for Sharknado 2 .
As a self-proclaimed lover of superheros and comic books, he’s wanted to attend a Comic-Con for years, despite being unable to make it until now.
Says Daniel of Spiderman, “I’ve always loved that character. I love the comics, actually, as well. I almost got a picture with two girls dressed as Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy, but the moment had passed.”
While he was at Comic-Con, Daniel also made an appearance as himself to discuss his new film, Horns , which was previously mentioned in this Inquisitr article . There he was serenaded with “happy birthday” since he turned 25 on Wednesday, and he regaled the crowd of about six thousand people with a few interesting tales.
A lot of the fans wanted to know about his post-Potter career, and Daniel told them he’d gone out of his way to pursue projects that were completely different than the Harry Potter franchise. In one project such as his Broadway play, Equus, he apparently bares all without the least bit of embarrassment about it.
“There may have been, and I’m sure there still are, a lot of people who just see me as Harry, but it only takes one director to not,” he said. “And I’ve been lucky so far in that I’ve had four or five directors who have taken a chance on me and wanted to see me do something different.”
When asked why he chose to walk around Comic-con as Spiderman, the response was just what one might expect: “You don’t go to Comic-con without going down on the floor and seeing it all. And the way I came up with doing it was Spider-Man. It’s a great superhero and covers the face, so it was perfect.”
Twitter users seem to have discovered that Daniel was not the only incognito celebrity walking around Comic-con. Apparently Jack Black and Peter Jackson had the idea as well.
