In a few short weeks, the Ford Mustang 2015 model will appear in showrooms to customers awaiting the latest rendition of the pony car. With baited breath, fans of the Mustang have been waiting for the full specifications list for this car, especially the power plants that will drive the new Ford Mustang forward for 2015.
Well, wait no longer. Ford has unveiled the muscle to rattle the hoods of this 2015 Mustang and they’re all impressive. From a base model V6 at a beautiful 300 horsepower to a big, throaty V8 with a monstrous 438 horses, few will be unimpressed with the 2015 Ford Mustang.
The 2015 Mustang gains only about 12-87 pounds over the current model year, depending on which model and engine option is chosen, so it remains relatively light. This is good news, as it couples with the higher engine outputs the car will now have. Those are our focus here, with Ford releasing engine specifications for the iconic pony car.
The smallest, in terms of output, is the 3.7-liter V6, which drops five horsepower from last year to come in at 300 horses and 290 lb-ft of torque. Losses are mainly due to efficiency gains for new EPA ratings. To make up for those losses, Ford added an EcoBoost engine option to add ponies and keep fuel economy high.
That’s the impressive 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder option. Yes, that’s four cylinders. But those four little pistons are pumping out 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque in the 2015 Ford Mustang. Impressed? Welcome to high compression engines, no longer the purview of high-end race cars.
Not interested in farting around with small displacement engines and their whiny Formula sounds? Well, then, be not afraid of the huge 5.0-liter V8 Ford will offer in the Mustang GT for 2015. Called the Coyote (thanks, Edmunds ), this engine outputs 435 raging horses and 400 lb-ft of gas-burning torque, boosting the V8’s output by an impressive 15 hp and 10 lb-ft over last year.
These engines can run through a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, depending on your preference. It’s likely that track enthusiasts and muscle hounds will want the manual while cruisers and everyday drivers will prefer the auto.
Speaking of the track, the 2015 Mustang GT will have several performance packs available for it as well. Watch how some of these Ford Mustang engines perform in these videos, courtesy of TorqueNews .
Whatever you choose, it will be awesome. Ford has gone all out with the new Mustang to make 2015 competitive with new offerings from chief rivals Corvette and Challenger. Don’t fret, though. You can order your Ford Mustang 2015 right now through a dealership pre-order program near you. And you should, because it’s not likely dealers will have inventory for some time.
