Beyonce Knowles publicly accused Jay Z of cheating as a way to keep the rapper in check, sources close to the couple claim.

Beyonce caused a stir at a recent concert in Ohio when she altered the lyrics to her song “Resentment” in a way that many interpreted to be calling out Jay Z. In the song about a woman realizing her man had been unfaithful, she sang: “Been ridin’ with you for 12 years,” instead of the original lyric of “six years.” Many believe the lyric was supposed to be referring to Jay Z, and one source said it was no mistake.

“Beyonce is very calculated in everything that she does and by changing the lyrics to her song it did two very important things,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com .

Jay Z and Beyonce have been plagued by rumors of infidelity and divorce, starting with the now infamous fight between Jay Z and Solange Knowles following the Met Gala. Sources said that Beyonce’s sister grew angry at Jay Z flirting with his friend Rachel Roy and attacked him.

The couple later skipped the Florence wedding of friend Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, which many said was a way to avoid Roy.

There have been other rumors of Jay Z cheating on Beyonce. For months, there had been reports that he cheated with singers Rihanna and Rita Ora, and new reports last week claimed that Jay Z has been carrying on with R&B singer Mya .

But others think they may have been other motives at play. A source told HollywoodLife.com that it may have been a calculated move to attract more attention to their joint summer tour.

“One was to keep Jay Z in check and two was to create some buzz for the tour to sell tickets. If people are going to talk about their relationship and the highs and lows, like everything else in her life she wants complete control and she wants all the advantages from it.”

The source added, “Beyonce is more than a woman, she is a business and this was a business decision first and a call out second.”

Some think that the lyric change may have nothing to do with divorce rumors between Jay Z and Beyonce. Time writer Nolan Feeney noted that the “12 years” reference wouldn’t match up well to the beginning of their relationship, and that Beyonce has been known to tweak the lyrics to “Resentment” at other concerts.
