The Duck Dynasty family may have one major thing in common between them and the Duggar family besides their Christian faith: they both want to keep close tabs on their daughters when they begin dating, with Jep Robertson tagging along as the chaperone for 11-year-old Lilly when she went on her first real date.
In a related report by The Inquisitr , Si Robertson said the Lord God Almighty is directing Duck Dynasty and Phil Robertson took the stump against President Obama, saying he wanted that “ungodly bunch” out of the White House. Of course, this may not be too surprising since some of the Robertson boy may be getting jobs as Congressional campaigners .
The response to Jill Duggar’s wedding tells us a lot about our culture. As part of the courtship process, any young man must ask permission from the father in order to date one of the Duggar girls. Physical contact was limited to side hugs with no kissing allowed and all dates had to be chaperoned by a male member of the family. Some people were shocked by Jill Duggar’s courting methods and the way she waited for marriage before having sex, never mind how she had first kiss during the actual wedding . Interestingly enough, the statistics over sex before marriage prove the Duggars right since those who wait are said to be much more satisfied and happy in the long run.
Now when Jep heard from his wife Jess that his little girl had a boyfriend his reaction was priceless:
“Jess, she’s 11-years-old. I imagined my daughters would start dating from around 30-35 years of age. There should be a height limit. She should be at least 5 feet 8 inches before she goes on a date.”
Jess tried convincing him it was just a “play date” for mini golf and that it was “cute and innocent” but he insisted on being a chaperone. So when boyfriend John Daniel showed up Jep played the bad cop, especially when the boy showed up late. Jep even criticized the boy as “nerdy,” saying, “I can see through those glasses and your Bieber haircut.” But eventually the father warmed up to the boyfriend since he bought Lilly flowers, gave her his jacket when it became cold, and – this is the most important part – talked about how much he loved hunting.
Of course, this attitude toward dating may not be shared among the entire Duck Dynasty family. Always seeming to want to stir up controversy, Phil Robertson claimed that boys should start looking for girls when they’re younger than 18 years old:
“You don’t wait for ’em to be 20 years old. Look, you wait till they get to be 20 years old the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket. You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They’ll pick your ducks. You need to check with mom and dad about that, of course.”
To put this comment in perspective, Phil was married in 1966 when he was 20 years old and Kay was just 16, which just happens to be the legal age to marry in Louisiana, so it’s not surprising he would advocate this approach.
