Rosario Dawson officially joined the cast of Marvel’s Daredevil Netflix series on Friday. The Sin City: A Dame To Kill For actress joins a growing cast that includes the Man Without Fear himself and his primary antagonist, The Kingpin.

According to the official announcement from Marvel , the stunning Dawson’s character is a “dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city.”

“Rosario Dawson is one the most charismatic, talented and powerful actresses in Hollywood, so she was always at the top of our list for ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Her role in the series is absolutely critical to Matt Murdock’s journey to become the hero we know as Daredevil.”

Let’s say it all together, “Love interest.”

While the Daredevil love interest character is unnamed, the healing description from the press release suggests that she may be Night Nurse (aka Linda Carter) from the Marvel comic series. She appeared in the Brian Michael Bendis 2004 run of the series as well as Doctor Strange in 2006 and The New Avengers in 2007.

The character actually fits because part of Daredevil ‘s charm, aside from being blind and the martial arts skills, is that he’s a superhero who regularly takes a beating. Thus, Dawson in a supporting character role to heal the wounds makes complete sense. Marvel has done an excellent job so far of updating seemingly minor characters from the comics and doing something special with them in the movies, so it should be interesting to see what they have in store for Rosario.

Dawson joins a cast that already stars Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as the series main villain in the form of Wilson Fisk (aka The Kingpin).

Daredevil is the first in a series of Netflix live-action TV shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will kick off with 13 one-hour episodes followed by series based on Jessica Jones , Iron Fist and Luke Cage and lead into the superhero team, The Defenders .

The series will be produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios. For those unfamiliar with the Daredevil , this plug from the press release is probably the best summation you can find.

“Marvel’s Daredevil” follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.
