Our E3 2014 expectations are much higher than some developers seem to believe, and it’s mostly because we now have the “next generation” consoles. With the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 now available for retail, the more jaded gamers are not going to be okay with a barrage of sequels and copycat titles.
Gamers are craving something original, something they haven’t seen before. Sure, we’ll accept Assassin’s Creed: Unity , Far Cry 4 , Batman: Arkham Knight and the latest Legend of Zelda , but what we’re craving is something different.
Turtle Rock Studios and 2K Games could be leading the pack for original ideas with Evolve , a four-on-one game where handful of various kinds of fighters take on a massive monster controlled by the fifth player. It literally takes the elements of the classic role playing game and plugs them into a first person shooter for one of the most original concepts we’ve seen in recent years.
A recent trend which has led to some cynicism in our own E3 2014 expectations is the idea of developers bragging about how their latest title will reach the benchmark of 1080p 60fps, and like Ubisoft’s latest release, they fall short. Watch Dogs was announced at last year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, and Ubisoft had everybody believing it would run at the level mentioned above. When it was finally released half a year after its expected release date, it fell short.
Watch Dogs also falls into the category of copycats as previously reported by The Inquisitr . Ubisoft’s hack-fest action title isn’t original at all, taking their own Assassin’s Creed stealth gameplay, and the “hack everything” style from Saints Row IV, and putting it all into a game that looks a lot like Grand Theft Auto V . Even the plot is mostly taken from Prototype , with a hero trying to find and take out a villain who kidnapped his sister.
Our E3 2014 expectations are pretty high this time. If we don’t see enough original ideas that blow us away, we might be excited for a little while, but in the end we are going to realize that very little of what we saw was new and different.

Among the titles we expect are series we are very familiar with, including Mortal Kombat 10 , The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , Battlefield: Hardline , Call of Duty: Advance Warfare , Uncharted 4 , God of War 3 , Killzone 4 , … there are way too many sequels and spinoffs.
Perhaps DriveClub , Evolve , and the possibly ambitious Mario Maker will fill the void for gamers who simply want something new to look forward to? What are your E3 2014 expectations?
