Still technically a WWE Superstar, CM Punk seems to be determined to prove his career in the pro-wrestling business is over, and he may have finally found the perfect way to calmly break the news.
CM Punk recently spoke with the Chicago based blog site, RedEyeChicago.com . They spoke about a variety of things, however, one thing in particular was on everyone’s mind.
Here is a small excerpt from the interview with Punk from the Red Eye Chicago’s website:
Red Eye: “How does it feel to be retired at 35? Are you going to be doing more charity work now?”
Punk: “ It feels good. It’s a lot easier when you hook up with organizations like the Cubs and being friends with some of the team members. It isn’t hard to support their charities. Plus I get to do fun stuff like bowl and paint chairs and play whiffle ball with Bill Murray. It was super fun and for a great cause. You’ve got athletes and actresses and musicians and all kinds of people painting chairs. I’m super happy to be a part of it.”
Now, some fans will see this, and think, ‘Well, CM Punk never said himself that he was retired from wrestling.’
However, he didn’t correct the reporter who interviewed him, and that may be a good indication that C.M. Punk is really retired from wrestling. And we can’t ignore the fact that interviewer is Chicago based, and the interview was probably done in person.
For a while, we couldn’t find anything new remotely related to CM Punk in the media. However, once his then girlfriend AJ Lee left the WWE for a sabbatical, he was out and about on a regular basis. Punk could be spotted at Chicago Cubs games, and, of course, with his beloved Chicago Blackhawks at their games as well….both at home and on the road.
Punk also confirmed that he and his now fiancee, AJ Lee, would be getting married sometime next month. It seems that CM Punk is done with the WWE and with wrestling, and he is happy living a normal life as Phil Brooks.
Punk did this interview with a Chicago based media outlet just in time as WWE Payback is set to be in Chicago this Sunday, June 1st. Due to that, Chicago fans will be dying to see Punk and will chant his name all night long.
WWE knows this going in, so it’s assumed they will try to do something to calm the situation like they did when WWE RAW was in Chicago a few months back. It’s thought that by Punk basically saying he was done with wrestling, fans may understand it and not care to keep chanting for him.
It’s doubtful that it will ever stop, sadly. Much to the WWE’s regret, no doubt.
Yes, it would be awesome to see CM Punk come back at WWE Payback, and shock not only Chicago, but the world. However, Punk returning at Payback is very doubtful. WWE potentially has 100 stories they could work on with him right now, and he’d be used quite prominently for some time….especially considering that some of the top names are gone, and the WWE is trying to move into a different direction.
If CM Punk does end up in Chicago at WWE Payback, it would be great. If not, we know full well that Punk gave us a heads up with his interview on Red Eye Chicago. So, we at least have to give Punk that, he will always keep you up to date when he feels like it. However, the speculation will continue. Sorry Punk, it’ll never end.
And if it is truly over, have a great life, Phil Brooks. You certainly earned it.
