A few weeks ago, we told you that Hugh Jackman was 99 percent sure he wanted to hang the claws up and retire Wolverine after all of his obligations are up. Since then, he’s had a second cancer scare, and, surprisingly, a change of heart.
In an effort to backtrack on his comments, in what we can only guess is a press move, actor Hugh Jackman is now “less sure” about retiring the character of Wolverine after he’s done with the films he signed up for.
Not only is he up for more films as Wolverine, he’s hoping that he gets to join the Avengers eventually. In an interview with IGN , Jackman said of his earlier comments:
“I’m less sure as it goes along. Because after seeing this movie, the whole thing feels fresher to me than ever. And during this movie…I don’t want to spoil anything, but it’s kind of like a clean slate, so who knows where it’s going to go. As long as I have the passion for it, and the fans will have me.”
Sounds like a backtrack motivated by the rounds of press events for X-Men: Days of Future Past , but what Jackman proposes next is something that’s pretty exciting either way.
It seems like Jackman has now adopted a “the sky is the limit” attitude about it all.
In regards to Wolverine’s future, Jackman told IGN :
“I would love to see him as part of The Avengers. Because there’s a great dysfunction among that team, and I think Wolverine would fit right into that. He’d like that. […] There’s no doubt he’d get in a fight with Hulk at some point.”
Hugh continued to talk about his role in a possible Avengers film and how much that world makes sense for the character:
“Those two bad, rage-filled characters are going to square off at some point. It would be quite fun. I don’t know how much fun to shoot it would be because I’m sure I’d be on the worst end of it, but hey, he can heal.”
Earlier, we reported that Jackman seemed tired of the Wolverine character and was ready to move on to other projects. Back then, he told SFX magazine , “If I did another one I’m 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me.”
The actor still has a third Wolverine film to shoot and another X-Men film called X-Men Apocalypse .
