The promise of a Watch Dogs 1080 60FPS experience turns out to be a little white lie by Sony, who claimed the Watch Dogs PS4 version could handle the game at its maximum setting. But even the Watch Dogs Xbox One version is not at 900p and is instead reduced to an oddball native resolution.
In a related report by The Inquisitr , the recently released Watch Dogs trailers shows off the spider tank and other goodies.
It was not that too long ago that the official Sony PlayStation site listed Watch Dogs for PS4 as follows:
“Hack everything as you make your way through Chicago’s underground as you experience Watch Dogs in a way that only PS4 can provide, at 60 Frames Per Second in 1080p.”
Well, there’s a very good reason that little tidbit was taken down so quickly. It turns out that the mighty PlayStation 4 can’t handle the game’s graphics . Creative director Jonathan Morin went on his company’s official blog to explain why they made this decision:
“On new-gen systems the game will run at 900p on PS4 and 792p on Xbox One, at 30 frames-per-second on both consoles. While some new-gen games now offer native 1080p, Morin says it’s much more important to deliver an amazing next-gen experience than it is to push a few more pixels onto a screen.”
Morin also went on Twitter to justify the decision to not have a Watch Dogs 1080p 60FPS experience:
“I said it is one element in every aspect of a game. Watch_Dgos is about dynamism. It could not have been the case Everything is related to each other and everything is a choice in game development.
“You decide to have dynamism like ours in a full city than you must embrace it when it comes down to choices. You guys can decide to extract resolution from the big picture to make it easier of a choice for you ? but I can’t.
“I am not denying that resolution have an impact but its about cost and impact. It is always about that. So you guys are free to interpret, it is your right. My job is to make choices based on the game we are making.”
What do you think about both the PS4 and the Xbox One now that you know that neither can handle Watch Dogs in its full 1080p glory?
