Thousands of illegal immigrant criminals were released into the United States by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, and some say this fact undercuts President Obama’s argument “that he is trying to focus on the most serious criminals in his immigration enforcement.”
In a related report by The Inquisitr , critics also say it’s a lie that two million illegal aliens were deported under President Obama . But some Democrats believe that illegal immigrants should be given citizenship in return for entering the US military . While many Republicans object to this plan, 2016 Presidential hopeful Jeb Bush claims being an illegal immigrant is an “act of love.” California also recently announced it was considering handing out professional licenses to illegal immigrants .
A report issued by the Center for Immigration Studies claims that ICE knowingly released 36,007 individuals despite many of them having a history of major crimes. Out of around 88,000 convictions, these crimes include:
- 193 homicide convictions
- 426 sexual assault convictions
- 303 kidnapping convictions
- 1,075 aggravated assault convictions
- 1,160 stolen vehicle convictions
- 9,187 dangerous drug convictions
- 16,070 drunk or drugged driving convictions
- 303 flight escape convictions
It’s claimed the majority of the illegal immigrants released were not required by Federal or State law and thus ICE took these actions at their own discretion.
Jessica Vaughan , the director of policy studies for the Center for Immigration Studies, said the number of illegal alien criminals released was shocking:
“This information is sure to raise concerns that, despite professions of a focus on removal of criminal aliens, Obama administration policies frequently have allowed political considerations to trump public safety factors and, as a result, aliens with serious criminal convictions have been allowed to return to the streets instead of being removed to their home countries. Studies have shown that fewer than a quarter of aliens who are released from custody while awaiting the outcome of immigration proceedings will show up for immigration court to finish their case.”
The organization does not believe there is any justification for releasing a murderer who is scheduled to be deported. For example, one conviction was classified by ICE as “homicide-willful kill-public official-gun.” Texas Rep. Lamar Smith says the release of the illegal immigrant criminals would be “considered the worst prison break in American history, except it was sanctioned by the president and perpetrated by our own immigration official.” At the same time, ICE says many of the released illegal aliens posted bonds or were subject to electronic monitoring or checking in with police officers.
