Ukraine’s autonomy vote being held by the Donetsk People’s Republic seeks to have Russia annex the eastern portion of Ukraine similar to the Crimean annexation.
In a related report by The Inquisitr , a worldwide poll showed that people think a CIA conspiracy theory would cause World War 3 and the United States is considered the greatest threat to peace in the world. Russia also claims a CIA plot backed by President Obama is manipulating Ukraine and they’ve already threatened a military response if they believe their interests are at risk:
“If we are attacked, we would certainly respond. If our interests, our legitimate interests, the interests of Russians have been attacked directly, like they were in South Ossetia for example, I do not see any other way but to respond in accordance with international law. Russian citizens being attacked is an attack against the Russian Federation.”
At the same time, Russia has seemingly taken contradictory stances. Their military plans on simulating a Russian defense against a nuclear strike and the launching of ballistic missiles from Russian submarines. Russia also officially said it would pull its army of 40,000 troops off of the Ukrainian border, although Ukraine’s government says they are still poised for an invasion. Vladimir Putin has called for Ukraine’s autonomy vote to be delayed for a time:
“Concrete steps have been planned to augment efforts by the OSCE to de-escalate tensions in Ukraine, primarily through arranging a direct, equitable dialogue between the present Ukrainian authorities and representatives of southeastern regions of Ukraine.”
It’s long been claimed the leaders of the Donetsk People’s Republic have been planning on turning the May 11 referendum into an appeal to Russia for annexation similar to the events that played out in Crimea. Already, Russian state TV has shown support for this idea by showcasing armed branches of the Donetsk People’s Republic asking Russia come into Ukraine to protect them. But other reports claim Ukraine’s autonomy vote will be limited in scope, with newspapers from Kiev claiming the “administration of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic said the issue of its inclusion in Ukraine will not be addressed at the May 11 referendum.”
Andriy Parubiy, the head of Ukraine’s national security council, claims “that a key task for Russia is to destroy the [presidential] elections on May 25.” So far, Putin insists that Ukraine’s autonomy vote will not lead to annexation via a referendum. Unlike Crimea, where becoming part of Russia again was popular, a recent poll of the people in Donetsk reveals that 52.2 percent of the people were against Russia annexing them and 66.3 percent do not want military intervention from Russia.
Do you think Ukraine’s autonomy vote will lead to the Donetsk People’s Republic demanding that Russia annex them?
