This coming Tuesday, fans of The CW’s crazy successful paranormal-meets-brotherly-love TV show Supernatural will be treated to the first onscreen adventure into the highly anticipated spin-off series Supernatural: Bloodlines .
The backdoor pilot for Supernatural:Bloodlines comes disguised as episode 20 of Supernatural ‘s ninth season, an episode cleverly titled “Bloodlines”. In the episode, the two heroes of Supernatural , brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, head to Chicago and discover that families of monsters are running the underbelly of the city in pure Chicago mafia style.
The official synopsis for the episode reveals a bit more:
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) investigate a case in Chicago, where they discover that various Mafia-esque monster families are, unknown to humans, running the underbelly of Chicago. One is a family of shape-shifters run by Margo Lassiter (guest star Danielle Savre), whose leadership is thrown into question when her brother David (guest star Nathaniel Buzolic) returns home. The other reigning family in town is made up of werewolves, led by Julian Duval (guest star Sean Faris). While in Chicago, Sam and Dean meet Ennis (guest star Lucien Laviscount), a man with a personal vendetta against the monsters. The Winchesters warn Ennis about heading into the hunter lifestyle, but Ennis refuses to listen and starts down a dangerous path.
Riding on the surprising success of Supernatural , which was recently renewed for an impressive tenth season (during which the show will hit the 200 episode milestone), Supernatural: Bloodlines will be stepping into some pretty heavy-hitting shoes: Supernatural itself jumped 88 percent in total viewers during its current (ninth) season, bringing in 3.2 million viewers, and has continued to grow its fanbase by leaps and bounds year to year.
Supernatural executive producer Jeremy Carver talked to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming spin-off:
“We’ve created a world that feels like the Supernatural world yet has so much more story to be told that doesn’t trample on the mother ship’s terrain. You’ve got two shows that are going to be able to exist in total harmony, I think.”
Supernatural :Bloodlines even made The Nerdist ‘s list of “10 Pilots to Keep an Eye on for Next Season”, alongside other shows carrying high expectations such as The Flash , the Batman prequel Gotham , and a small screen version of Constantine (better known as John Constantine, Hellblazer to those who remember the original comics).
Supernatural airs its next episode, which will act as the pilot for Supernatural: Bloodlines , this Tuesday, April 29.
I love Supernatural but a spin-off? Supernatural:Bloodlines sounds like a bad idea to me.

Why are the supernatural spin off shows Bloodlines and The originals mafia style? I love Dean: “what is this mafia with fangs”
