Earlier today, former Disney channel star Selena Gomez released her third album titled, When the Sun Goes Down , an admittedly “different” sound for 18-year-old, but one that she is “really proud of.”

“When the Sun Goes Down” — an album that Gomez revealed was partially inspired by her mother — features a diverse array of themes, most of which speak to the growing maturity of artist who got her start playing in the children’s show, Barney & Friends .

“I think it ages me up a little bit,” she said, regarding the album.

In addition to the new album, Gomez is scheduled to star in her own E! Entertainment Special which covers the young singer dishing on everything from being bullied in school to her thoughts on dating a superstar to her parents traumatic divorce.

“I remember when my parents broke up I didn’t understand it,” Selena emotionally says. “I blamed my mom a lot … because I wanted a family so bad. I wanted to have my dad and my mom together. So it was really hard.”
