Actor Harrison Ford did a Reddit AMA yesterday to promote the Showtime docuseries Years of Living Dangerously about climate change. Ford stayed online to answer fifty questions from Redditors, giving snarky retorts and sincere replies to his fans.
Questions regarding Blade Runner naturally turned up, especially since rumors have swirled around a sequel, with Harrison Ford interested in the project . When someone asked Harrison how he felt about a sequel, Ford reiterated his interest. “I’m quite curious and excited about seeing a new script for Blade Runner if in fact the opportunity would exist to do another, if it’s a good script I would be very anxious to work with Ridley Scott again, he’s a very talented and passionate filmmaker. And I think it would be very interesting to revisit the character.”
Talk of how Harrison Ford got his role as Han Solo in Star Wars has circulated for years, but he gave his own take on it. “I was approached with the offer of a job, which at that point, was all I wanted to hear,” said Ford. “I had helped George Lucas audition other actors for the principle parts, and with no expectation or indication that I might be considered for the part of Han, I was quite surprised when I was offered the part.”
As for who shot first? Ford blasted that dead horse down quickly.
I don’t know and I don’t care.
Eventually someone asked Ford the standard question of funny stories from a set and Harrison related one about the infamous scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark in which Indy shoots an intimidating swordsman in a standoff. He explained he’d been suffering from dysentery at the time and was looking for a way to get out of the last three days of their shooting. “When I got to set I proposed to Steven that we just shoot the son a bitch and Steve said “I was thinking that as well.” So he drew his sword, the poor guy was a wonderful British stuntman who had practiced his sword skills for months in order to do this job, and was quite surprised by the idea that we would dispatch him in 5 minutes. But he flourished his sword, I pulled out my gun and shot him, and then we went back to England.”
User goborage asked what Harrison Ford line he gets asked to say the most.
“Get off my plane.”
But Ford later nailed it when someone commented with a simple “I love you.” His reply?
I know.
