Selena Gomez Lets Manager Parents Go, Shopping New Deals From Strong Place

Selena Gomez has dropped her mother and stepfather — Mandy and Brian Teefey — as managers. The move, which took place last month is reportedly against her parent’s wishes, but is officially an amicable one.

According to reports, Selena has permanently relieved her parents of all and any duties and obligations related to managing her career, a job they have held since her days at Disney.

TMZ report the 21-year-old actress-singer is stretching her adult wings and feels old and big enough to have the kind of power representation other A-list clients command.

The gossip site stresses on-off boyfriend Justin Bieber and career direction disagreements are not the cause of the split.

Gomez’s dropping of her parents as managers comes as her four-album deal with Disney’s Hollywood Records ends, which means the starlet is looking for both new management and a record deal.

It’s also a doubly attractive package from a management and record company perspective.

HitsDailyDouble reported Tuesday,

“Pop siren Selena Gomez is out of contract with Disney – and though she may ultimately stay with her current label, she has been meeting with other record suitors.

The site added: “She’s also seeing potential new managers, including Jeff Kwatinetz and Martin Kirkup. Attorney David Lande and her WME agent will be at her elbow throughout the process. ”

An update followed the next day, stating: “Selena Gomez has signed with Steve Jensen and Martin Kirkup’s Direct Management.”

However, other outlets report Gomez has not inked any new deals yet, with E! News adding Katy Perry’s manager Bradford Cobb is in the running as a management option.

If Gomez has signed with Direct Management – who manage Perry – some believe this may mean Selena is eyeing a new album deal with Perry’s label, Capitol Records.

Last December, Selena pulled out of the Australia and Asia legs of her Stars Dance tour last December citing a need to “spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be.”

Shortly after,on January 5, the Latina entered the Dawn at Arizona recovery facility. At the time her rep stressed it wasn’t for substance issues, with sources later coming forward to E! News explaining that Gomez needed helping “letting go” of her relationship with Bieber.

The Disney alum has since powered back with two concerts in her home state of Texas last month, notably at BorderFest in Hidalgo.

Selena was more recently seen in Miami meeting up with reportedly on-again boyfriend Beau at the Hit Factory Tuesday night while he worked with Island Def Jam artist Madison Beer.

She was later spotted at Miami International airport bound for Los Angeles on Thursday.

Despite tabloid gossip sparking following her unsteady arrival at the Miami studio; with two hit singles – “ Come & Get It ” and “ Slow Down, ” a No.1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart last July with her Stars Dance album, a well-received turn in Spring Breakers and an anticipated one in William H. Macy’s Rudderless – the timing couldn’t be better for Gomez to sign new deals for the next chapter of her career.
