Today, The Late Show with David Letterman taped an appearance by actress Lindsay Lohan in which both Lohan and David Letterman call Oprah Winfrey to discuss Lohan’s progress in life after several stints in rehab.
Letterman initially refuses Lindsay’s suggestion that they call Oprah, but the video later cuts to him shushing her as the phone rings. Winfrey picks up and Letterman proceeds to prank call her, changing his voice and posing as Lohan’s secretary. Winfrey sounds audibly annoyed, demanding, “Who is this?” This prompts Letterman to reveal himself and although Lindsay takes the phone and apologizes for the call, Winfrey and Letterman proceed to talk as if Lohan isn’t even there.
Lohan seems to realize this and attempts again to say hello to Oprah, but the conversation about Lindsay continues as they discuss Lohan’s progress as a person, describing her as doing “really okay” and acknowledges the challenges that face celebrities followed around constantly by cameras. This brings tears to Lindsay’s eyes, who has been praising Oprah for being there for her, admitting that they talk often.
Lohan is currently doing press for her eight-part documentary series, Lindsay , which began airing on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) last month. The series follows her actress’ struggle to put her life back together after entering rehab for alcohol abuse and her notorious hard partying lifestyle. In the most recent episode, Lohan admits to breaking her sobriety with a glass of wine. “Being in recovery and leaving a place where you’re in this little bubble and everything is safe around you, it’s really hard,” she said. “I jumped right into a relationship where we weren’t on the same page. I wasn’t considering the fact that the person I was seeing does drink and I had a glass of wine.”
Coming to terms with her recent error, Lohan is moving past it. “I just had so much guilt. It took me a bit to, like, finally just be, like, ‘Why am I holding this in? Yeah. F*** it. I screwed up.’ I screwed up, and that’s OK, but now what can I do so that it doesn’t happen again?” Lindsay said. “That’s part of the process. That’s a part of life.”
What do you think about the video? Did Oprah knowingly give Lindsay a phone snub by not acknowledging her attempts at conversation or was it simply an error on her part?
Lohan’s appearance will air tonight, April 9, 2014 on CBS.
