‘Assassin’s Creed: Comet’ Rumored As ‘Black Flag’ Followup For PS3, Xbox 360

Assassin’s Creed: Comet will apparently have you playing as a Templar in an upcoming game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Ubisoft’s last generation alternative to Assassin’s Creed 5 is rumored to be a sequel to Black Flag , taking place in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of New York.

The story of Comet follows a sailor who betrays his Captain, a man who Black Flag veterans remember as Adewale. Adewale was first revealed as the Quartermaster to not-quite-assassin pirate Edward Kenway. He eventually led Kenway into the ways of the assassins along with the mysterious James Kidd (whose name and other aspects turned out to be a ruse).

Adewale ended up becoming the Captain of his own ship in Freedom Cry , which was originally a DLC addition to Black Flag but ended up being its own spinoff. One member of his crew is a man known as Shay, a man who ends up betraying Adewale and joining the Templars in Assassin’s Creed: Comet .

As previously reported by The Inquisitr , the word “comet” in the title of the game could very well refer to Halley’s Comet, named after the French astronomer. Rumor has it that the comet is linked somehow to the First Civilization, a running subplot in Assassin’s Creed hinted at, and expanded on after, AC2 . The game allegedly takes place in 1758, 16 years after Edmond Halley died, when the comet he discovered reappeared just as he’d predicted.

It seems that Halley’s Comet could be the iconic center of a new story that links Black Flag with the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Unity ‘s French Revolution setting. The comet could be a signal that inspires a chain of events leading to France’s most famous war.

‘Assassin’s Creed: Comet’ could be centered around Halley’s Comet

Playing as a Templar this time around, Assassin’s Creed: Comet will likely continue the naval gameplay we fell in love with playing as Captain Edward Kenway, but reverse the focus and quite possibly visit Kenway’s Templar son Haytham in North America.

This Fall, it appears Ubisoft is splitting its development teams between two separate, yet vaguely connected, Assassin’s Creed titles. Unity is coming to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, while Comet is heading to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
