Last night, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Duke freshman Guard, Kyrie Irvin g with the first pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.

In doing so, Irving became the the 10th ACC player to be taken with the number one choice, joining the ranks of legends such as Ralph Sampson and David Thompson.

“Looking forward to getting to Cleveland, feels good to finally put a hat on,” Irving told reporters at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Irving- who, because of a toe injury, only played in 11 games during his short college career- is the Cavs first No. 1 pick since the 2003 draft, when they selected a young man by the name of Lebron James- who has since taken his “talents” to Miami to play along side of Dwayne Wade .

Concerning being chosen first, Kyrie said,

“I didn’t have any doubts about going No. 1. I was looking to the organization to pick who they felt was the right choice.”

“But now to this moment,” he continued, “from being a fan of the NBA draft and now being drafted, it’s a special feeling in my heart and knowing that my friends and family were together, it’s a memory I’m going to remember for the rest of my life.”
