‘PlanetSide 2’: PS4 Exclusive Shooter Takes Aim At ‘Titanfall’, ‘Destiny’

A PlanetSide 2 PS4 port is being developed, and Sony is aiming to take down the competition with it. The sequel to the acclaimed PC shooter is looking to quench the thirst of PlayStation 4 gamers who appear for now to be missing out on exclusive killer IPs among the shooter crowd.

When the original PlanetSide was released, it was notorious for requiring a fast internet connection to be playable online. In spite of its generally positive reviews, it was the laggy gameplay and massive demands on the CPU that kept it from being one of the best shooters to date. This was back in 2012, and things have improved.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Sony adapted the futuristic FPS with a somewhat different approach. After it was released, they asked the gamers to vote on what changes they wanted to see, essentially turning the shooter into a gamer-made experience. The trade-off was that individual mods were not allowed in the game, and got the player banned .

‘PlanetSide 2’ on PS4 could take on ‘Titanfall’ and ‘Destiny’

The PlanetSide 2 PS4 port is not alone with some of its past PC issues. Battlefield 4 launched with horrible server issues, causing gamers much frustration as they already dealt with game-breaking glitches and balance problems. Also, much like Sony’s upcoming PS4 exclusive shooter, Titanfall won’t allow mods.

Those problems aside, PlanetSide 2 is known for its epic scale of combat, a selling point boasted by the upcoming Destiny . Unlike most FPS titles we have come to know, Sony’s hopeful killer IP will give the gamer that feeling that an army is coming after them. A massive amount of customization may also appeal to gamers who have been noticing a lack of such options in recent releases.

The sheer variety promised by this PlanetSide 2 PS4 port is breath-taking. The open world maps are so huge that you’re almost guaranteed to never drop into battle in the same place twice, and there is always a level of immediacy that Team Fortress 2 made famous. Even at its low points, PlanetSide 2 is oddly compelling.

Thankfully the PlayStation 4 is made to handle the processing power needed to pull off Sony’s mass scale FPS, and since Sony is the developer, it will give PS4 owners further ammunition in the PS4 vs Xbox One console war. Titanfall may be on the verge of turning the tide in Xbone’s favor, but the PlanetSide 2 PS4 port could just be that heavy hitter that brings Sony back to the top.

Do you think PlanetSide 2 has what it takes to give Titanfall and Destiny some competition?
