Matthew McConaughey’s Mom Is Proud Of Her Oscar Winning Son

Matthew McConaughey’s mom was very proud of the man her son has become even before he won the Oscar for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club in which he plays an AIDS patient, Ron Woodroof, who smuggles illegal drugs that help him fight his symptoms and defies the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) by sharing them with others who suffer from the disease.

The drama — based on a real-life story — was so powerfully portrayed that McConaughey took home the Best Actor Oscar, while his co-star Jared Leto won as Best Supporting actor for his role as an HIV-positive transgender woman, Rayon. The first time this happened since the 2003 film Mystic River .

For McConaughey’s mom, Kay McCabe — who accompanied him to the 86th Academy Awards ceremony along with his wife — it is no surprise that her son has achieved such incredible success:

“Matthew makes me proud because he is very humble and sincere and a very thoughtful person, he is just a great son.”

Kay credits the strong family behind Matthew McConaughey and in particular his dad for making him a devoted husband to wife Camila and father to their three kids, Levi, five-and-a-half, Vida, four, and 15-month-old Livingston.

James McConaughey was also a devoted family man, who owned a gas station and worked hard to support his family. He passed away in 1992, after divorcing and re-marrying Matthew’s mom several times.

Talking about what a great dad Matthew is, Kay — an 82-year-old former schoolteacher — recently said she never doubted he would be just so:

“I had no doubt when he decided to marry, which he took his time doing, that he would be a thoughtful, trustful husband. Well, he was brought up seeing his dad show these traits, and setting a good example is always the best teacher.”

Nothing spoke more of what Matthew McConaughey’s priorities in life are, than what he told the British publication The Sun that the thing he wanted most, following his big night last weekend, was to spend some quality time with his Brazilian model wife and “make another baby.”

Matthew and Camila met in 2006, they became engaged in December of 2011 and got married in June of 2012.

“To my wife, Camila, and my kids, the courage and significance you give me every day I go out the door is unparalleled. You are the four people in my life that I want to make the most proud of me. Thank you,” Matthew McConaughey said during his Oscars acceptance speech.
