Katie Holmes is heading back to the small screen.
If you’ve prayed to the Gods of television each and every night that Holmes would land a series over a decade after she bid farewell to Dawson’s Creek , then your hopes and dreams are one step closer to coming true. According to E! Online , Katie recently landed a pilot for a new ABC drama.
Similar to the novel Les Liaisons dangereuses (aka Dangerous Liasons ) by French author Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, Katie Holmes’ latest foray into filmed entertainment tells the story of two shady individuals who attempt to ruin a woman’s marriage. Holmes will reportedly portray the target of his nefarious plot.
In addition to Katie, Dark City alum Rufus Sewell will play one of the schemers who wants to destroy this woman’s life. Word on the street suggest this villain could ultimately fall for Holmes’ character, though it’s still too early to tell how the drama will unfold. Producers are reportedly searching for someone to play Sewell’s partner in crime.
TV Guide reports that the Beautiful Creatures writer Richard LaGravanese is tackling the untitled drama featuring Katie Holmes. Should the pilot make it all the way to series, it would serve as the actress’ first starring role on the small screen since she bid farewell to the career-launching program Dawson’s Creek .
Although she hasn’t headlined a series in quite some time, she’s made a few appearances on TV since 2003. Not only did Holmes portray Grace Fuller in the legal drama Eli Stone , she also popped up in two episodes of How I Met Your Mother . The actress starred in the TV miniseries The Kennedys alongside Greg Kinnear and Barry Pepper as well.
Following her very public split with husband Tom Cruise , Katie Holmes seems determined to get her life and career back on track. While her stint on Broadway came to an abrupt end, Katie rebounded by lining up several cinematic endeavors.
Holmes will appear next in director Phillip Noyce’s sci-fi drama The Giver , a film that features a number of familiar faces. In addition to Katie, the flick also stars Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgård, and Taylor Swift. Interested parties can catch the movie in theaters on August 15.
Fans of Katie Holmes should keep their fingers crossed that the ABC drama finds its way to series. Since the network wants to have a look at the pilot before they give everything the proverbial greenlight, there’s always a chance the series could crash and burn before it ever gets off the ground.
