The very first thing the New Orleans Saints must do when the NFL gets back to business is figure out what they are going to do with RB Reggie Bush. More than likely that decision has already been made since Reggie is due 11.8 million dollars for the last year of his current deal. They will cut/release/whatever the term actually is to rid themselves of that money. The new collective bargaining agreement may ultimately decide how they go about riding themselves of that money. The simple fact is Reggie is not worth that much, but I am not convinced this team still cannot use his services.
Next up is the situation at QB. Backup Patrick Ramsey is a free agent, and Drew Brees is no spring chicken. I would have liked to see this team draft a youngster to start developing, as I am not convinced Chase Daniel is that. Of course the Saints coaching staff would know more about than I do. At some point it would seem logical that they will need to add a project QB to the roster.
The next free agency concern comes at LT where 2010 starter Jermon Bushrod is a free agent. The club will have to look to either resign him, or find a clear upgrade on the free agent market. Another Free agency concern comes at LG where starter Carl Nicks is also a free agent. With a couple of free agents on the O line is seems a little puzzling that the Saints did not chose to address that via the draft. The plan may just be to resign their own vets.
On the defense the new CBA could reek some havoc at the DT spots. Beyond Sedrick Ellis two of their other DT’s likely will be free agents. Again the choice must be made resign their own talent, or seek upgrades via free agency.
