The Virginia Destroyers signed another former Florida Tusker to their roster recently, as they have added QB Chris Greisen. Many football fans will know Greisen as mostly a career backup in his NFL and Arena Football League career, but in the United Football League Greisen has found a lot of success as a starter. Last year he stepped in for an injured Brooks Bollinger and helped lead the Tuskers all the way to the UFL championship game. He feels like he has some unfinished business in this league as his Tuskers came up a little short last year.
Greisen was a seventh round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 1999 NFL draft. In College, he won a division two national championship with Northwest Missouri State Bearcats in 1998. In Arizona, he was the backup for three seasons. In 2002, he signed on with the practice squad of the Washington Redskins, and in 2003 layed in NFL Europe as a member of the Rhien Fire. He then went to the AFL2 and the Green Bay Blizzard. He would move on to the Dallas Desperados as a backup before catching on with the Georgia Force of the AFL as a starter.
Greisen signed on with the Tuskers for the inaugural UFL season in 2009 and was there backup before returning to the AFL to help lead the Milwaukee Iron to the conference championship in 2010. He would resign with the Tuskers for the 2010 UFL season. It was during that season that we saw Greisen display some of the magic he had shown in the arena game. He threw for over 600 yards and five TD’s in the 2010 UFL season, He was offensive player of the week twice last season and also rushed for a few TD’s.
