Matt Rutler is the future husband to Christina Aguilera and father to her yet-to-be-born child, but the 27-year-old is quite a bit different from Christina when it comes to Hollywood
The couple, who got engaged last week on Valentine’s Day and this week announced that they are pregnant, are at opposite ends of the Hollywood spectrum. While Christina splits her time between recording albums, appearing in movies, and coaching young talent on The Voice , Rutler has preferred to take a behind-the-scenes place in the entertainment business.
The pair met on the set of the 2010 movie Burlesque, which starred Aguilera. Rutler was working as a production assistant on the set, a position that is low on the rung of the Hollywood pecking order.
Aguilera said the connection between the two was immediate.
“We had a really strong friendship on the movie. He’s the kind of person you could spend hours on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it’s daylight,” Aguilera said back in 2010. “There’s a love there, yes. I’m having fun, I’m dating and it’s something I haven’t had in a really long time.”
Matt Rutler has worked on the set for other popular movies, including The Social Network and The Proposal. He also has some experience in the music industry, thought nothing like his pop superstar fiance. He played guitar for The Nate Mott Band, appearing in a couple of music videos with the band before leaving the group.
In fact, Matt Rutler can trace his roots far from Hollywood . He grew up in New Jersey, graduating from Ramapo High School before going to Roger Williams University in Rhode Island. He later moved to California to work in the entertainment industry, but still maintains close ties to his home.
In December 2012, Rutler brought his mom to the set of The Voice so she could spend some time with Christina Aguilera.
But it doens’t appear that Rutler and Aguilera will be leaving the West Coast anytime soon.
“I don’t know what their plans are,” Matt’s mom Kathleen Rutler told InTouc h when asked if the couple would be moving back east. “But when you have a baby, you’re not planning on moving anywhere anytime soon!”
Matt Rutler and Christina Aguilera have not yet announced when their baby is due, or when they plan to marry.
