When Game of Thrones returns April 6th for its season four premiere, one thing can be counted on…there will be blood.
In a tantalizing Game of Thrones season four 15-minute preview, titled Game of Thrones Season 4: Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing the show’s producers all but guarantee the confrontations that have been building the past three seasons will come to a head.
“There is tremendous clamor for revenge,” executive producer David Benioff proclaims. “Especially in the wake of the Red Wedding.”
HBO has posted Game of Thrones Season 4: Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing on YouTube , after airing the special following True Detective on February 10th. Fans can replay every clip scene by scene in hopes of uncovering clues to their favorite characters’ fate (assuming they haven’t read the novels already) in anticipation of season four. But according to David Benioff, fans may have to wait through the entire season to see if everyone makes it out alive.
“Some of the most shocking and mind-blowing scenes of the entire series come at the end of this season,” Benioff announces. “There are some very bloody confrontations.”
Game of Thrones has a well deserved reputation for not being kind to it’s most popular characters. In the aforementioned “Red Wedding,” the show offed some of their most famous faces such as Rob Stark and his pregnant wife at a seemingly benign wedding celebration (hence becoming known as the “Red Wedding”). In the upcoming season four, the show offered a glimpse at another wedding, dubbed “The Purple Wedding” amongst fans of the novels. The Purple Wedding , seemingly less scarring than The Red Wedding, finds the hated King Joffrey and his bride-to-be Margaery fulfilling their pending nuptials in an elaborate ceremony.
Another highly anticipated sight in the Game of Thrones season four preview was that of Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons, who are now fully grown and set to unleash the “fire” part of the season title. Played by actress Emilia Clarke, Daenerys Targaryen has her hands full with her fire-breathing friends while also dealing with her role as leader over the cities she helped liberate. But really, what’s up with those dragons?
“When the dragons were first born they were adorable babies,” Benioff explains. “Each season they grow and each season they become more dangerous.”
Clarke even goes on to elaborate the obvious:
“Because for godssakes their dragons,” she deadpans in the video. “What’s to stop them from killing anyone they want?”
Whether its Red Weddings, Purple Weddings, dragons or more, fans can’t wait for Game of Thrones season four to arrive already. Here are some tweets from Game of Thrones fans echoing that sentiment after getting a taste of what’s to come:
