In the Berrendo Middle School Shooting, at least two people were injured according to the New Mexico State Police in Roswell where the incident took place.
The first reports on the shooting did not confirm who had been injured or if the victims were children, and what the extent of their injuries were.
The Eastern New Mexico Medical Center said that it was treating two patients, but wouldn’t disclose any further details. Students were bused from the school to the Roswell mall where their parents were instructed to pick them up .
Last month, a gunman opened fire at the Arapahoe High School in Colorado. In that incident, 18-year-old Karl Pierson was carrying a machete, shotgun, and Molotov cocktails.
Pierson carried out his shooting spree as he wanted to take revenge for the fact he was dropped from the school’s debate team. It remains to be see if the Berrendo Middle School shooting was also some kind of revenge or even copycat attack.
The reason why the question of copycat shootings came up is because Pierson carried out his attack on the eve of the first anniversary of the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown.
The person who carried out the Berrendo middle school shooting is now in custody following a full shut down of the school and surrounding areas.
Update: A hospital official told reporters that a 14-year-old with injuries was airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas.
