Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus used to be engaged, but announced in September they were parting ways. After mostly remaining silent about their failed relationship, she is opening up about the split and her fear of being alone.

The eccentric superstar recently sat down with Barbara Walters and was quite candid about her split from Liam Hemsworth, officially announced in September.

The 21-year-old former Disney star is part of the ABC special Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013 .

During her segment, Cyrus talks about her fears:

“I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year. I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can’t be yourself.”

After their very public break-up in September, following her infamous twerking appearance at the MTV VMAs, Miley accused Liam Hemsworth of cheating on her.

Although the Australian hottie has been seen kissing a Mexican star in a parking lot, nothing seemed to come of it, and he apparently remains single.

Liam Hemsworth is known to be a gentleman and has remained mostly silent on his failed relationship with the out of control Cyrus.

While she has had the biggest year of her career and seems to be everywhere, he has been silently moving on with his life and career.

Currently, Liam Hemsworth is filming the last installment of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay in Atlanta.

In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, he couldn’t stop gushing over Jennifer Lawrence, his co-star in The Hunger Games , telling Jay:

“She’s obviously one of the best actresses I’ve ever worked with. She’s incredible on set. She’s an absolute maniac in the best way possible. There’s no filter. She says whatever she wants, anytime she wants.”

In a sign of immaturity, Miley tells Barbara Walters:

“I don’t think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn’t change being engaged. It was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years. But now…I wait for those moments of silence, when I’m just at my house, by myself.”
