So the Jets made just four picks a year ago, and for the most part I was pretty high on what they did, A year later I am questioning the practice of trading draft picks for veteran talent, and the overall lack of impact this class had on the Jets. One year ago they were a game away from playing in the Super Bowl, and this year they are in exactly the same position. I really wonder if a more impactful NFL draft class would not have gotten them over the top.
Before we get to all of that here is a quick look at the 2010 Jets draft class:
- Round One- CB Kyle Wilson
- Round Two- OT Vlad Ducasse
- Round Three- RB Joe McKnight
- Round Four- RB John Conner
So Wilson played as the nickel back as a complement to Antonio Cromartie, and Darrelle Revis. He made 21 tackles and returned 15 punts. Ducasse was inactive for 14 games. McKnight was the third RB on the depth chart and racked up 189 yards on 39 carries. Conner ended up catching eight passes for 44 yards.
So even if we count Cromartie and WR Santonio Holmes among their draft picks (since picks from this draft were traded for each) I don’t see a ton of impact here. In fact this team is in exactly the same position it was last year. I don’t think that is good enough, but I still think this class has a lot of promise. My main complaint here is the Jets limited themselves to just four picks, and all four failed to make a significant impact so far.
