The Man of Steel sequel has cast Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
Gadot has appeared in the last three installments in the Fast & Furious franchise as Gisele Yashar, a liaison for drug trafficker Arturo Braga (John Ortiz) who eventually develops feelings for Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel).
Sunday, Gadot expressed her grief over the death of franchise star Paul Walker . The 40-year-old was a passenger in a two-seater Porsche Carrera GT when the driver, Roger Rodas, lost control and hit a tree.
“Lost a dear friend today. So sudden and tragic.. Hard to believe.. Paul was a great man with a big heart and passion for life,” Gadot wrote on Facebook. “I’m so sad he’s no longer with us. Can’t believe I’m actually writing this.. I’m sending my condolences to his family and his precious daughter Meadow. Rest in peace brother. We will miss you here..”
The Israeli actress also appeared in the 2010 films Knight and Day , starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, and Date Night , starring Tina Fey and Steve Carrell.
The 28-year-old joins Henry Cavill, who reprises his role as Superman, and Ben Affleck, who was cast as Batman this summer. Zack Snyder returns as director.
“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe,” Snyder said.
“Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role,” he added. “We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”
In October, Warner Bros. Pictures’ Greg Silverman hinted that Wonder Woman could appear in the sequel.
“We have been doing a lot of thinking for years about how to best use all those characters. Wonder Woman is an amazing character,” he said. “I think it’s a great opportunity both for box office success, but also to have an amazingly powerful female superhero.”
Oblivion actress Olga Kurylenko reportedly screen tested for the role in November.
The Man of Steel sequel, tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman (or Superman vs. Batman ) is scheduled for a July 17, 2015 release.
