An Obamacare “fix” proposed by President Obama would allow Americans to keep their existing health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act, but only for one year.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , President Obama apologized for Obamacare causing approximately 15 million people to lose their health insurance plans .
Obamacare marketing plans have been trying to convince everyone the ACA is a good idea and to make sure every knows what health insurance plans are available under the Affordable Care Act. They also want to ensure that at least 2.7 young Americans sign up, which is necessary for the state exchanges to break even .
For example, a single young adult may make $50,000 and discover their health insurance premiums have gone up significantly in order to subsidize coverage expansion elsewhere, which some people have derided as “redistribution of wealth.” These “ shadow fiscal policies ” have resulted in effectively raising taxes for the middle class, and the Obamacare penalty continues to be unpopular , as well.
But, despite the marketing efforts, many people are most upset over the news that they can’t keep their own plans based upon the changes made under Obamacare. Even former President Bill Clinton said President Obama should honor the promise he made years ago, when he proclaimed repeatedly, “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan.”
So, President Obama announced an Obamacare fix that allows currently cancelled health insurance plans to stay in effect for one more year. This is intended to smooth the transition to the state exchanges.
According to the President:
“Already people who have plans that predate the Affordable Care Act can keep those plans if they haven’t changed. That was already in the law. Today we’re going to extend that principle both to people whose plans have changed since the law took effect and people who bought plans since the law took effect.”
This idea was apparently considered necessary because the Obamacare website, HealthCare.gov , continues to experience major performance issues, and millions of Americans are outraged over losing their existing coverage.
In a rather partisan swipe at the loyal opposition, President Obama also mentioned Republicans wanting to defund the Affordable Care Act completely as “brazen attempts to undermine the law.”
For example, John Boehner said an Obamacare fix was not enough:
“I am highly skeptical that they can do this administratively. There is no way to fix this.”
Do you think the Obamacare fix proposed by President Obama is enough to repair the woes caused by the Affordable Care Act? Do you think the Affordable Care Act was intended to be a prelude to single payer insurance?
