Thor 3: Ragnarok Desired By Chris Hemsworth For ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Sequel

A Thor 3 sequel is already being talked about after the success of Thor: The Dark World , with Chris Hemsworth saying Ragnarok would be the perfect storyline. But Loki is causing mischief and confusion as always, with actor Tom Hiddleston saying Armageddon might be triggered by his character in Thor 3 .

As previously reported by The Inquisitr , the Thor: The Dark World after credits scene has people wondering what the Thor 2 end means .

At the center of the revelations is the Marvel universe’s Infinity Stones, which can bequeath god-like powers. With Iron Man most likely out of sequels, this leaves possibly Avengers: Age of Ultron and Thor 3 to deal with the Infinity Stones.

In the past the Thor 3 movie has been both confirmed and denied. Three months ago actress Natalie Portman claimed Thor 3 was a very likely prospect but then then Kevin Feige shot down Thor 3 rumors by saying Marvel isn’t working on the production .

Jaimie Alexander , who plays Lady Sif in Thor: The Dark World , claimed there would definitely be a Thor 3 if the box office numbers for Thor 2 were good . And since they have definitely been good it’s likely we’ll get to see Chris Hemsworth’s wishes for a Thor 3 Ragnorak to come true:

“I think what’s good about this is that each time, with the Avengers, we sort of made it difficult to separate them each time there’s some sort of conflict it’s like where’s the rest of the team? And I liked that Thor has another universe or the universe to sort of take care of and keep him occupied. I think that in the comic book the sort of end of days, Armageddon aspect is probably the direction in which it will all head in. Where it’s sort of the end of all things and there’s obviously no script or anything when I read the comic books I thought it was an interesting way to go.”

The Thor universe has several important enemies. The first is the Frost Giants of Jotunheim, who were in Thor 1 . Next is Svartalfheim, home of Malekith and the Dark Elves, which was featured in Thor: The Dark World . So when Chris Hemsworth mentions Armageddon he’s referring to Ragnarok, which would center on Muspelheim, whose fire demons are led by a thousand-foot tall leader named Surtur.

Chris Hemsworth was asked directly if he’d like to fight fire demons in Thor 3 and he answered, “Yeah, bring them all in.” And it’s not like this idea for Thor 3 isn’t without precedent. Executive producer Craig Kyle also teased similar ideas when describing the Tree of Yggdrasil housed within the Asgardian Hall of Science which appears in Thor: The Dark World :

“And the effects and woes and success of the universe are spoken through this, this living object. So, should the end of all things ever come this would probably be the first thing to fall.”

Still, no one will confirm for certain whether Thor 3 will feature Ragnarok or the fire demon lord Surtur. The original Thor Ragnarok story has the Asgardian hero missing in action and presumed dead. So Tony Stark clones Thor and fuses it with Iron Man technology to create a cyborg Thor.

But according to actor Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki in Thor, it’s possible Ragnarok would bring back Thor’s half-brother as the primary villain for Thor 3 :

“I think there are very interesting things that happen. In the mythology, when you get into Ragnarok, which is the “end of all things”, it’s not the end of the world…It’s the end of time, and the universe, and space. And I think, if I am correct…Loki essentially, sets that in motion. And his motivation for doing so is intriguing and he almost becomes the incarnation of chaos, in a way…So I think that can be quite new.”

And this plot for Thor 3 wouldn’t necessarily be triggered by fire demon lord Surtur. Instead, Loki’s wife Sigyn may be involved:

“In the myth, he has a wife called Sigyn who protects him from a poison serpent who is dripping venom into his mouth. And she has a bowl over his mouth and of course the bowl keeps filling up and she has to empty it, and so his damnation could be interesting. I don’t know…I mean, Loki is a character who’s existed in popular consciousness for 3,000 years, so there are many, many iterations I could explore…It’s just a question of whether audiences would want to see him again.”

But Tom Hiddleston admits this idea for Thor 3 is just one of many and it’s “all quite open-ended.” He worries about “overstaying” his welcome as Loki and says, “I guess we will just have to wait and see.”
