2010 NFL Draft one year later: Cleveland Browns

One year ago I was a little down on the 2010 draft class of the Cleveland Browns. What can I say; sometimes I am just dead wrong. I had my questions about TJ Ward, and after watching him play he is a playmaker. On top of that after meeting him at a Browns Backers function I can attest he is a heck of a nice guy as well. Each and every day this draft class looks better, and it has a lot of very real potential.

Here is a quick look at the 2010 Browns draft class:

  • Round One- CB Joe Haden
  • Round Two- S TJ Ward
  • Round Two- RB Montario Hardesty
  • Round Three- QB Colt McCoy
  • Round Three- G Shawn Lauvao
  • Round Five- DB Larry Asante
  • Round Six- WR Carlton Mitchell
  • Round Six- DE Clifton Geathers

So right off the bat we have eight draft picks and six remain with the team. Hardesty went down in pre season with a season ending injury so whatever he becomes will be a bonus. Of the six two immediately stepped in and rebuilt the defensive secondary, and it looks like they really scored with their third round acquisition of McCoy. I have said this many times that McCoy should be a Minnesota Viking right now, but their loss is certainly Cleveland’s gain.

Haden ended up with 64 tackles, and six INT’s. that goes along with 18 pass breakups and he is a shut down corner already. Ward led the team with 123 tackles and was a big contributor on special teams. McCoy was a rookie QB and struggled at times but showed a lot of promise. Lauvao was inactive for much of the season but still has big upside. Asante was cut during the season and Geathers was cut in pre season. That leaves Mitchell who was largely inactive. All in all a very good draft class.
