For someone who’s working on a secret Marvel project, Iron Man 3 and Ender’s Game star Ben Kingsley is certainly having trouble keeping his lips zipped.
Fans have speculated endlessly about the possible Marvel One-Shot ever since the acclaimed actor started dropping vague hints about the project. Kingsley recently used his interview with Vanity Fair magazine to spill even more cinematic beans about his secret gig.
Ben Kingsley offered up the following details during his recent chat. If you haven’t seen Iron Man 3 yet, then you may want to avoid the spoilers below.
“I think it may be seen as… sometimes [Marvel] tacks on a short film to one of their other releases, maybe on a DVD or something. I haven’t heard anything at all about this. So it’s in progress. It will have to remain under wraps. Marvel was so brilliant in the way they kept the transition from the Mandarin to Trevor Slattery in ‘Iron Man 3.’ They were absolutely brilliant at it. I so respect the way they dearly want to surprise their audiences. But we will just have to leave it in the realm of rumor.”
This isn’t the first time the Iron Man 3 star dropped a few juicy hints about his upcoming project with Marvel Studios. Although his comments during the interview with Vanity Fair suggest he’s working on a One-Shot, Coming Soon explains that co-writer Drew Pearce shot down rumors that the short film will deal with the real Mandarin.
“One thing I know for sure: nobody’s going to be apologizing for the Mandarin twist any time soon,” Pearce recently said about the project.
The folks at Latino Review suggested that the Marvel One-Shot concerns itself with the real Mandarin’s reaction to the events in Iron Man 3 .
The website reported:
“The real Mandarin is furious with Aldrich Killian and Ben Kingsley’s character Trevor Slattery for the mockery they made of the real Mandarin’s identity and legacy. The real Mandarin wants to set the record straight.”
Although Ben Kingsley said he couldn’t reveal any substantial details about his secret gig, the actor told The Belfast Telgraph that the project allowed him to work with several people from Shane Black’s Iron Man sequel one more time.
“I was with many members of the crew that were involved in ‘Iron Man 3.’ It was lovely to see them again. It was great to be with this wonderful family. I think they have enormous taste as creative artists. There’s nothing lazy or gratuitous about their work. They are at the top of their game, and they’re great company to keep,” he said.
