Jofi Joseph, a high-ranking member of the White House’s National Security Council was fired last week after he sent numerous controversial tweets from the now-closed @NatSecWonk Twitter account.
White House officials chose to fire Jofi for “leaking international information” that included offensive digs at various public officials and sharp criticism of the Obama administratio
In one tweet Jofi Joseph wrote: “‘Has shitty staff.’ #ObamaInThreeWords.”
Before closing more than 1,000 followers on Twitter had joined the accounts Twitter feed. The bio on the account read: “Unapologetically says what everyone else only thinks. A keen observer of the foreign policy and national security scene. I’m abrasive and bring the snark.”
In an email to to Politico Jofi Joseph admitted to running the controversial Twitter account and wrote:
Joseph admitted to the claim and emailed the following statement to Politico :
It has been a privilege to serve in this Administration and I deeply regret violating the trust and confidence placed in me. What started out as an intended parody account of DC culture developed over time into a series of inappropriate and mean-spirited comments. I bear complete responsibility for this affair and I sincerely apologize to everyone I insulted.
Joseph is also believed to be running the account @dchobbyist which has not been closed but is locked. Joseph has not denied or confirmed his involvement in that account.
While he disclosed sensitive information Jofi Joseph has not said that he endorses the leaking of national security information. In one @NatSecWonk tweet he wrote “Here’s the bottom line: @wikileaks can go f*ck themselves.”
Do you think Jofi Joseph as a high-ranking White House security official should have refrained from sending the tweets he delivered? Do you think leaking information is the new form of patriotic rebel rousing by government officials?
