Fox has the green light for a new drama. Lucifer will be a television drama centered around the prince of darkness. Lucifer is Satan who doesn’t wear a red suit and carry a pitchfork in the series. Satan will be portrayed as the owner of a nightclub and a flirtatious ladies’ man, according to All Christian News .

Lucifer , based on the Vertigo character, will be developed by Tom Kapinos, the creator of Showtime’s Californication . The setting for the drama will be in hell and in Los Angeles. Lucifer grew tired of how he was depicted, so he leaves hell and lives in Los Angeles, in a place nicknamed “the City of Angels.”

This description of Lucifer was introduced in Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series in 1989. After appearing in that book for over 10 years, Lucifer received his own series that lasted from 2000 to 2006. Now, Lucifer will return in Fox’s series.

In the Fox’s production, the lead role, Lucifer Morningstar, is tired of his life as the overseer of hell, so he decides to begin a new life in Los Angeles, California as the owner of a nightclub named Lux. Lucifer tries to escape the stigma that’s been attached to him ever since he rebelled against God. He wants to walk freely among people and interact in their lives.

The main character, Lucifer, is played by Tom Ellis, a new and upcoming actor. Ellis played the main character in Rush , as Dr. William Rush, a Hollywood physician. The 36-year-old Welch actor also had a starring role as Robin Hood in the show Once Upon a Time.

Lucifer Morningstar is quickly humanized after he experiences a drive-by murder and joins forces with homicide detective Chloe Dance, played by Lauren German, best known for her role on Chicago Fire .

“Amenadiel, an angel, tries to convince Lucifer to go back to his job as the evil one in hell. Lucifer doesn’t want to accept the angel’s offer. He wants to stay in Los Angeles and mingled with humans.”

Besides some glowy red eyes of Lucifer and the wings of Amenadiel, the drama isn’t centered around anything supernatural in the beginning of the show. According to Cinemablend , Lucifer deals with different takes on problems involving free will vs. fate. The series will have an assortment of characters, including angels and other non-human entities.

Lucifer isn’t set to air until January, 2016. Will you watch a series about Satan?
