‘Assassin’s Creed 5’ Location Rumors Explained

The Assassin’s Creed 5 location rumors have been running rampant, probably due to hints thrown at us in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and its DLC Freedom Cry . Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed anything about where or when the game will be taking place, but they did say that Freedom Cry would give us the biggest hints.

One possibility that can be thrown out immediately is anything related to zombies. Zombies were mentioned in a news crawler in the head honcho’s office in AC4 ‘s fictional developer Abstergo Entertainment. This is where ninjas were also mentioned, leading to rumors of feudal Japan . Zombies wouldn’t be used at all because they aren’t a proven part of history in any way. Yes, games based on them tend to be popular, like Left 4 Dead 2 , Dead Island , and the bestseller Dead Rising 3 , but those are based on a fictional apocalypse setting.

Assassin’s Creed is about history, not the imagined future.

The most popular of the Assassin’s Creed 5 location rumors is feudal Japan, based on that news crawler mentioned above. Considering how the game is played and its general mechanics, that location would make the most sense. In fact, it was the time setting I mentioned before Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was even released. Just because I want it to happen doesn’t mean it will, yet.

‘Assassin’s Creed 5’ location rumors point to feudal Japan, ancient Egypt, and the era of King Arthur

Why is feudal Japan not likely to be the setting? Ubisoft said that it would be hinted at heavily in the DLC, and Japan was never mentioned in Freedom Cry .

Another one of the Assassin’s Creed 5 location rumors is ancient Egypt, which is more likely, but is probably not where the next game is going. If you think about it, there are references in the Bible about massive rebellions with slaves being liberated, and there was even a mention in one of the hacking mini-missions from AC4 involving that time period. Again, Freedom Cry never mentioned Egypt.

A third possibility which could be used in future games is Renaissance England, with the Knights of the Round Table being the central story. It would certainly be interesting to see King Arthur’s rise to power as a member of the Assassins, using a weapon locked in a stone until he uncovers a gadget which frees it.

The most likely possibility among the Assassin’s Creed 5 location rumors is the US Civil War , where Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery. This is most likely because Freedom Cry is all about Kenway’s quartermaster Adewale freeing his people from plantations in Port-au-Prince . Could it be that Abraham Lincoln was an ally of the Assassins, and his killer was a Templar? After Brotherhood and Revelations , it wouldn’t be the first time the series has returned to a geographical setting.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but Ubisoft has dropped several hints about where the series could go from here.
