The long-awaited World of Warcraft movie is expected to begin filming early next year.
Fans of the popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game have been waiting several years for this project to get off the ground. Warner Bros. is apparently still committed to bringing the adventure to the big screen in the next few years.
According to Production Weekly , the World of Warcraft movie will go before the camera on January 13, 2014 . The studio is reportedly eyeing a 2015 release date.
Source Code director Duncan Jones has been tasked with directing the film adaptation of the popular video game. The filmmaker worked alongside Blood Diamond scribe Charles Leavitt on the screenplay. It’s currently unknown what kind of story the guys are hoping to tell.
This isn’t the first time Warner Bros. has attempted to get a World of Warcraft movie off the ground. A few years ago the studio tapped Saving Private Ryan screenwriter Robert Rodat to put together a story.
Around the same time, the studio was reportedly courting Oz the Great and Powerful director Sam Raimi to take the reins on the project. Despite their best efforts, this World of Warcraft movie never came to fruition. After a very long wait, fans of the game may finally get their wish.
There’s currently no information regarding the film’s cast as of this writing. However, that’s likely to change in the coming months considering production will begin early next year. Expect some details about the project to surface very soon.
Blizzard Entertainment originally released World of Warcraft on the market back in 2004. The game became an instant hit with role-playing fanatics. After several expansion packs and updates, the title is still going strong. Millions of people embark on virtual adventures to this day.
