‘WWE Monday Night Raw’ Results: Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins at ‘Clash’ — Roman Reigns Could Be Added

Published on: September 5, 2016 at 7:09 PM

Kevin Owens and Triple H shocked the WWE Universe at the conclusion of last week’s Monday Night Raw . This week, Kevin Owens celebrated the beginning of his title reign as WWE Universal Champion. Triple H has yet to offer an explanation for helping Owens last week and didn’t show up during this week’s Raw . Amidst the chaos and controversy, Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and General Manager Mick Foley continued to establish their roles on Monday Night Raw and their relationship with each other.

Barely even being acknowledged in the show’s opening, Roman Reigns didn’t show up on Monday Night Raw until the final segment. While he was given the opportunity to earn a rematch for the WWE Universal Championship, his unfinished business with WWE United States Champion Rusev and the “Ravishing Russian” Lana went completely unmentioned. With WWE Clash of Champions 2016 just around the corner, someone will have to be named as Rusev’s opponent in a match for the U.S. title. Will that man be Roman Reigns, or have The Bulgarian Brute and The Big Dog parted ways for good?

And with Clash of Champions now less than three weeks away, there are two other championships on Monday Night Raw that must be defended. Having defeated Sasha Banks at SummerSlam , WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte will have to defend her title. The Boss has yet to receive her obligatory rematch, but Bayley just defeated the champ in a non-title match. Could WWE they both be headed towards a Triple Threat Match at Clash of Champions ? Unlike Charlotte, The New Day already know who they will be defending their championship against. At Clash of Champions , it will be The New Day vs. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows for the WWE Tag Team Championship.

WWE Monday Night Raw results

The following includes the results of all the matches and segments from WWE Raw on September 5. Raw has won the “ratings war” ever since the separate rosters were established, although SmackDown Live hasn’t been far behind. With the WWE Universe still buzzing about last week’s Raw and wanting answers from Triple H and Kevin Owens, Stephanie and Mick have a very good chance of winning again this week, even if it is SmackDown Live ‘s last show before WWE Backlash . This episode of WWE Raw aired live from the Sprint Center Arena in Kansas City, Missouri.

Raw Pre-Show on the WWE Network

Scott Stanford hosted the Raw Pre-Show , and was joined by WWE Hall of Famers Lita, Booker T, and Jerry “The King” Lawler. They begin by announcing that Kevin Owens would be kicking off Monday Night Raw with his “championship celebration.” They also discussed what they thought Sasha Banks would tell the WWE Universe on WWE Raw and how long it would be before Dana Brooke challenged Charlotte.

They also reviewed the confrontation between Stephanie McMahon and Paul Heyman on last week’s Raw , when Heyman offered an “apology” on behalf of Brock Lesnar. It was also announced on the pre-show that Bayley would be facing Charlotte in a non-title match on Raw .

Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley

After a video package of last week’s shocking events was shown, a prerecorded video aired of Stephanie and Mick discussing whether or not Triple H could have planned to help Kevin Owens all along without his wife knowing. At the end of the conversation, Mick Foley said he believed Stephanie when she said she had no idea. Otherwise, it would make her “a very good liar and a very bad person.”

The Kevin Owens Championship Celebration

Kevin Owens did what was needed to make sure that the Kansas City audience would turn on him, as he initially received a very warm welcome from the Midwest crowd. Just as the WWE Universe at the Sprint Center Arena were booing him for calling Raw the “The Kevin Owens Show,” he was interrupted by Seth Rollins. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion accused Stephanie of turning her back on him, claiming she had been in cahoots with Triple H the entire time.

After Rollins attacked the champion, Stephanie declared that he was suspended indefinitely. However, Foley convinced her instead to allow him to book a match to settle the issue. Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins in a WWE Universal Championship Match was booked for WWE Clash of Champions 2016 . After a commercial break, it was announced that Kevin Owens would face Sami Zayn later on Raw , and that Chris Jericho would face Seth Rollins.

Bayley Defeated WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte

With Dana Brooke literally taking notes on how to defeat Bayley, the recent NXT call-up got a non-title victory over the WWE Women’s Champion after connecting with her Bayley-To-Belly Suplex finisher. The set-up to that moment, however, came when Charlotte bumped heads with Dana. As she tried to apologize to her mentor backstage, Charlotte called the former fitness competitor “sorry” and slapped her before storming off.

A Repackaged Bo Dallas Defeated Kyle Roberts

Bo Dallas came to the ring carrying a sign with his new slogan, “Bo-lieve in Bo.” His new attitude seems to be a slightly darker version of the pre-Social Outcasts Bo Dallas. He made very quick work of a very forgettable local wrestler.

Seth Rollins Defeated Chris Jericho

Trying to avenge his best friend’s celebration being interrupted earlier in the show, Jericho was more than happy to have a match with Seth Rollins. Unfortunately for Y2J, it was Rollins who got the victory, using a Pedigree to send a message to WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens and Triple H.

Sheamus Defeated Cesaro — Takes 3-0 Lead In Best-Of-Seven Series

Since letting Sheamus sweep Cesaro in four matches doesn’t make a lot of sense, one has to believe that the Swiss Superman will win at least the next three matches, taking the series to a dramatic finale in the seventh bout. Sheamus will likely take a more relaxed attitude for the next match or two, allowing Cesaro to build momentum. It would make sense for the seventh contest to take place at Clash of Champions on September 25.

The Shining Stars Defeated Enzo Amore And Big Cass

In what could easily go down as the biggest upset of the week, Primo and Epico got a clean win over a tag team that heavily impacted last week’s main event. It’s unclear whether this marks the beginning of a push for the Puerto Rican duo, the beginning of the end for Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, the beginning of a program between the two teams, or some combination of those possibilities.

Nia Jax Defeated Ann Esposito

Jobbers have become a regular part of Monday Night Raw . This one happens to be friends with Alicia Fox, as evidenced by The Foxy One’s Instagram. Unfortunately, that friendship did not prove beneficial as Nia Jax made very quick work of her, as expected. Later in the show, Alicia got in Nia’s face backstage. It looks like Fox will be the first established competitor for Nia Jax since she was drafted to Monday Night Raw .

Luke Gallows And Karl Anderson Introduced “The Old Day” — The New Day Responded

In a segment that was reminiscent of the Attitude Era feud between Degeneration-X and the Nation of Domination, The Club introduced the WWE Universe to The Old Day, their version of what Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E would look like as elderly men. Of course, the joke didn’t run for long before the real WWE Tag Team Champions interrupted the skit. Soon after, The New Day vs. The Club was booked for Clash of Champions , with the tag titles on the line.

Darren Young Defeated Jinder Mahal And Fought Off Titus O’Neil

As the quick match between Young and Mahal was finishing up, Titus O’Neil left his seat at the commentary table to try to distract Darren during his match. Unfortunately for Titus, Young went on to win the match and got the upper hand on O’Neil after the match. As the feud continues, Young and Bob Backlund have momentum on their side.

Braun Strowman Defeated Sin Cara By Countout

After Strowman defeated a luchadore last week and ripped off his victim’s traditional mask, Sin Cara wanted to teach Braun a lesson for disrespecting the lucha-libre culture. Unfortunately for Sin Cara, he stood no chance against the former member of the Wyatt Family.

Sasha Banks Announced That She Wants Her Rematch Against Charlotte

After a drawn-out promo in which Sasha Banks seemed to hint about an early retirement, it was revealed that she wants her rematch for the WWE Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions . When Dana Brooke came out to try to prove her worth to Charlotte by injuring Banks, she ended up tapping to the Bank Statement. It would appear as though both Bayley and Sasha Banks will be able to make a case for getting a title shot against Charlotte.

Kevin Owens Defeated Sami Zayn — Owens Vs. Reigns Booked For Next Week

In what certainly won’t be the last time the WWE Universe sees Owens vs. Zayn, the WWE Universal Champion got a clean victory over his longtime, real-life friend. After the match, Roman Reigns finally made his presence felt. As he was about to get his hands on Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho appeared from the back. But before Y2J and Owens could double-team Reigns, Mick Foley made another announcement: on next week’s Raw , if Roman Reigns can defeat Kevin Owens, the match at Clash of Champions will be a Triple Threat Match.

The above WWE Raw results will be corroborated by WWE’s official Monday Night Raw page.
