Selfie sticks are completely about to be a thing of the past at Walt Disney World . It was just three months ago that Disney Parks had banned the selfie sticks while on and in different attractions, but that didn’t seem to be good enough. Now, they’re going to be banned entirely throughout Disney Parks.
A source did reach out to the Inquisitr and stated that the ban is going to actually begin on June 26, but there has been no official word from Disney as of yet. It appears as if Disney is taking the method of not letting them into the parks, and allowing guests to pick them up later.
The source told the Inquisitr that guests will be able to retrieve them upon leaving the parks they visit, and that includes Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
“Selfie sticks are officially banned from all Disney Parks effective June 26. Security will be taking them at bag check at each park and Guest Relations will check them (for guests) for retrieval after you leave the park.”
WDWNT has reported that the new policy won’t be in place until possibly July , but maybe sooner.
Now, there is no word yet on whether or not this will happen at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks, as well. One would expect them to follow suit after what happened on Wednesday.
According to KTLA , the California Screamin’ roller coaster at Disney California Adventure had to be brought to a halt after a guest brought out a selfie stick on the ride. The stop lasted for less than an hour and happened sometime around noon.
Twitter users were tweeting and saying that the ride “broke down at the very top” due to the unnamed guest taking out the selfie stick.
Signs have been posted all around the Disney Parks, and Cast Members have been instructed to advise guests of the new policy. If they see a guest boarding an attraction with a selfie stick, they let them know that using them on the attraction is prohibited.
CNN reported last month that Disney did say they weren’t banned in the parks, but merely on all attractions. It seems that some things have changed, and now Disney doesn’t want them being used in the parks at all.
Again, Disney has not officially commented on the banning of selfie sticks throughout Walt Disney World parks, but it seems like it is coming. As always, anything is subject to change until an official announcement has been made, but selfie sticks in Disney seems like a thing of the past.
