The Two and a Half Men finale took place last night, and may fans are wondering… where was Charlie Sheen ?
It has long been rumored that Sheen would be making a return to the comedy that he was famously fired from four years ago as his character Charlie Harper. However, he was nowhere to be seen when the final episode of the 12-season sitcom aired.
Producer Chuck Lorre took to his website to explain to fans why Sheen was absent from the finale.
“I know a lot of you might be disappointed that you didn’t get to see Charlie Sheen in tonight’s finale. For the record, he was offered a role. Our idea was to have him walk up to the front door in the last scene, ring the doorbell, then turn, look directly into the camera and go off on a maniacal rant about the dangers of drug abuse. He would then explain that these dangers only applied to average people. That he was far from average. He was a ninja warrior from Mars. He was invincible.”
“And then we would drop a piano on him,” Lorre continued. “We thought it was funny. He didn’t. Instead, he wanted us to write a heart-warming scene that would set up his return to primetime TV in a new sitcom called The Harpers starring him and Jon Cryer. We thought that was funny too.”
Prior to the finale, CBS President Nina Tassler teased that there would be some major surprises and praised Lorre for his talents.
“Chuck [Lorre] is an extraordinary showrunner,” Tassler said. “I can promise you there will be a lot of surprises and out of respect from Chuck, and this is a direct quote, he has promised to deliver what he’s calling ‘a mystery sandwich.’”
Sheen also commented on his presence, or lack thereof, on the finale via Twitter .
“Attention World: If you’re looking for my much anticipated cameo on network TV, you’ll have to check out “The Goldbergs” Wed Feb. 25th on ABC!” Sheen tweeted. “I go where the love is. c #OfCourseI’mNot.”
