It has been almost 20 years since Notorious B.I.G.’s untimely death, but Faith Evans wants the case reopened.
Notorious B.I.G. was born Christopher George Latore Wallace and was known by different stage names, including Biggie Smalls or Biggie. He was 24-years-old at the time of his death on March 9, 1997. Biggie Smalls was gunned down by a man riding in a Chevrolet Impala SS that pulled up to the side of Biggie’s SUV. Biggie sustained four gunshot wounds and was rushed to Cedar-Sinai Medical Center. Unfortunately, he did not survive the emergency surgery. To this day, his killer has never been caught.
Biggie’s autopsy results were released to the public 15 years after his death. According to the report, out of the four gunshot wounds, three were not fatal. The fourth bullet, which was fatal, hit several of his vital organs, including his left lung, heart, liver, and colon.
Evans, B.I.G.’s wife at the time of his death, sat down for an interview with HuffPost Live recently and said that she wishes for the case to be reopened.
The LAPD, together with the FBI, worked on Biggie Smalls’ case. Faith Evans said that she feels she knows what happened, and she also believes that the LAPD knows the identity of Biggie’s killer .
“We know he was murdered, but we believe that the LAPD knows who’s responsible. That’s what we believe.”
Though many speculate that the rivalry between the East Coast and West Coast gangs is the cause of Biggie’s death, Faith Evans thinks that it is deeper than that. She certainly does not think that Biggie’s death is the result of him being in the music industry.
Many questions still haven’t been answered, and Faith Evans hopes that reopening the case will bring a resolution to Biggie’s death, which she described as being “tragic and senseless.” As of now, Faith Evans is just happy that Notorious B.I.G. has left a legacy through his music.
“We’re just happy that we’re here to preserve his legacy and [make sure] his kids are happy and they’re living great lives. They realize the importance that he played in his short time, not only on this earth, but even shorter time in the music industry. He, obviously not knowing, he definitely built something for them.”
After Notorious B.I.G.’s death, Faith Evans worked with P. Diddy, then known as Puff Daddy, on a tribute song entitled “I’ll Be Missing You.” The song quickly became a worldwide sensation and Evans even bagged a Grammy award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1998.
