Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston have settled their custody case for 3-year-old son Tripp, court records in Juneau show.
The pair agreed back in 2010 that Bristol would have primary physical custody of Tripp and they would share legal custody, and the new development that the case is closed shows that the pair will resolve problems themselves, Levi Johnston’s attorney Rex Butler told The Associated Press .
It didn’t always appear that Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston would be able to tackle their custody issues without help from the court, USA Today noted . Levi initially expressed worries about Tripp being featured on Lifetime series Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp , but those feelings apparently passed as he has a new child with his girlfriend.
There had been some drama surrounding Levi and Bristol’s relationship in the past and their custody of Tripp. The pair was engaged before breaking up, and a shortlived reconciliation ended at the reported insistence of Bristol Palin’s family.
Last year, Levi Johnston commented that Bristol got pregnant on purpose and that he was too stupid to insist on birth control.
“Bristol wanted to have a baby … It all happened on purpose, and I was dumb enough just to roll with it,” he noted, poking fun of the fact that Palin would go on to become a spokesperson for abstinence.
It appears the pair has now put the bad blood behind them. On Monday, Bristol Palin wrote a blog post in response to questions about Levi Johnston’s new addition to his family.
She wrote:
“”Tripp has a new half-sister. Which strikes me as a little odd. Though I don’t have much interaction with Levi, of course I’m happy for him. A child is a blessing and I know they are experiencing the joys (and challenges!) of having a newborn. Tripp sent the new baby flowers, and we both wish all the best for her!”
Putting the custody battle with Levi Johnston behind her couldn’t have come at a better time for Bristol Palin. She in in the midst of rehearsal for the upcoming Dancing With the All-Stars .
