It’s been a difficult time for Avril Lavigne as she has taken her struggle with Lyme disease public. What was even harder for Lavigne, though, was when she didn’t even have a diagnosis.
On Good Morning America , the 30-year-old Canadian singer shared her struggles with Lyme disease and the long road it took to get diagnosed.
According to Fox News , Avril Lavigne felt like she “ was dying ” as she dealt with not being able to eat, talk, or even move.
Lavigne admitted that she looked for help everywhere, but it just didn’t seem to help.
“I was in Los Angeles, literally, like the worst time in my life and I was seeing, like, every specialist and literally, the top doctors, and they were so stupid, and they would pull up their computer and be like, ‘chronic fatigue syndrome,’ or ‘Why don’t you try to get out of bed Avril, and just play the piano? Are you depressed?’ ”
As Avril Lavigne spoke, the “Complicated” singer started to tear up.
Lavigne added, “This is what they do to a lot of people who have Lyme disease. They don’t have an answer for them so they tell them, like, ‘You’re crazy.’ ”
According to Billboard , Lavigne admitted that she is just about halfway through her treatment and that she is already “ seeing a lot of progress .”
Lavigne also added, “I’m just really grateful to know that, like, I will make [a] 100 percent recovery.”
Lavigne also shared what was a big part of her recovery has been — her fans.
Avril Lavigne shared that as she laid in bed and in pain, it was her fans that kept her going.
“I sat there in my bed and watched [fan videos showing their support for her] and I cried through the whole thing and honestly I felt very loved and it sounds silly, but I really did feel my fans through the process.”
And Lavigne has been very appreciative of all the love online, often sending tweets to her fans, letting them know how grateful she was.
I had a really good day today. Thanks everyone for sending well wishes and love. I certainly felt it. Thank you all so much. Xoxo
