Sam Smith Breaks His Long Silence By Announcing He Is Heading Back To Australia

Sam Smith has been on enforced vocal rest for weeks, and it has been hell for the British singer. Sam was forced to endure weeks of total silence after suffering a hemorrhage on his vocal chords. The injury to Smiths vocal chords was probably as a result of his subjecting them to almost constant strain after being on the road for most of the last 12 months. Unfortunately for Sam the injury required surgery to correct it and poor Sam was ordered to have complete vocal rest to avoid the risk of causing scarring which could have had a detrimental effect on his singing voice and hence his career.

Smith, who recently achieved a remarkable feat by having his debut album In The Lonely Hour in the top 5 for 50 of the 52 weeks since release, was on a concert tour in Australia when disaster struck. Sam was forced to cancel the rest of the tour and a host of festival appearances as he flew to the U.S. to have the injury repaired by Dr. Steven Zeitels.

As soon as Sam’s vocal rest period expired the singer took to social media to tell his fans that he could, at last, talk again. According to the Daily Mail one of the first things that Sam did was to apologize again to his Australian fans for cancelling shows and announce that he was coming back to Australia later this year.

The Mirro r reports that Sam took to Instagram to say “Australia. From all the bad news has come some good news!! Not only am I coming back to make up for the cancelled shows but I get to play bloody arenas!!!!”

“So excited to sing for all of you and apologize personally for my bleeding throat xxxx (sic)”

The news that Sam is able to talk again will be a huge boost for him as it has been a challenging few months for the 23-year-old singer. According to People it will be another couple of months before Smith can start to sing again. Sam will want to be sure that he is completely recovered from the surgery before putting his voice under any pressure.

Smith also thanked his surgeon publicly on social media.

Sam said “[T]hank you so much Doctor Zeitels. You have truly saved me this past few months. Such an amazing man. You truly truly truly don’t know what you got until you lose it. I have fallen in love with music all over again over this past month, and more than ever I feel so blessed to be able to sing and do what I love every day.”

Doubtless Sam Smith will soon be back to his best and will be able to put a challenging few months behind him for good.
