Pharrell Williams is certainly happy about his upbeat tune. What started as a single for the animated summer sequel, Despicable Me 2 , has launched into a worldwide sensation. Many videos have surfaced on YouTube with people dancing and singing along to the song, and HitFix reports that “Happy” has been number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks in a row.
His latest is yet another one to be featured on a soundtrack to a summer movie sequel. This time, Pharrell Williams slows it down for the web-slinging, Marvel adventure, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 .
“Here” is a love ballad with string arrangement done by Hans Zimmer. The song has lyrics that sound like they hit the right moments when Peter Parker declares his love for Gwen Stacey. It’s about a struggle between a man and a woman about their relationship and being “here again.” Here is a sample of the chorus:
“And I, I promise on all existence/If it breathes then it is our witness/We have unfinished business/You and I/And so my word is that I’ll cross those bridges/With zero regret for limits/And distance, you and I.”
And here are some other lyrics from the Pharrell Williams ballad:
“My dear, it seems we’re here again/Was there a glitch in my message/Isn’t it clear we’re here again/Let’s get new GPSs.”
It turns out that Pharrell Williams did more than just come up with this new song for the film. A separate HitFix article reports that Pharrell collaborated with Zimmer and The Smiths’ Johnny Marr for the film’s score.
Williams also co-wrote and produced the Alicia Keys and Kendrick Lamar song, “It’s On Again,” which will serve as the movie’s theme. Williams doesn’t lend his voice to the tune, but he makes an appearance in the music video as the man who controls the lights for New York City.
A report from Entertainment Tonight questions whether “Here” will be the next “Happy” for Pharrell Williams . Only time will tell if Pharrell has another hit on his hands.
Williams recently made an appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s new show, Oprah Prime , to discuss the success of “Happy.” The Inquisitr reported that Williams became so overwhelmed when talking about the song and how well it’s done that he began to cry. Things got more emotional, when Oprah showed a fan tribute video of people dancing to the Williams song.
Fighting back tears, Pharrell said that he appreciates “the fact that people have believed in me for so long that I could make it to this point to feel that.”
The soundtrack for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be available on April 22, and the film will release to theaters on May 2.
