Beetlejuice fans can now be more excited, as Winona Ryder, one of the original cast members of the 1988 horror comedy film has confirmed that the sequel is going to happen.

In December, Inquisitr reported that Tim Burton, the director of Beetlejuice said that the sequel is “closer than ever.”

Beetlejuice is a film about Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a ghost who helps a ghost couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) scare the new occupants of their home. The Deetzes, the new residents, arrive from New York City together with Lydia (Winona Ryder), their daughter who befriends the ghosts of the home. The movie raked in $73 million in the box office.

Talks of the Beetlejuice sequel have been around since 2012, and Keaton also confirmed that he has been exchanging emails with Burton.

Recently, Ryder was interviewed by Huffpost Live together with Peter Sarsgaard about their film Experimenter , which is slated to be shown at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. When asked about the Beetlejuice sequel, Winona Ryder only had one thing to say.

“As far as I know, it’s gonna happen.”

Ryder did not dish out the details on the timeframe of the movie or whether some of the other former cast will be involved, but her confirmation is enough to send fans into a frenzy.

According to Ryder, she first heard of the news of a sequel while she was being interviewed for her 2012 movie The Iceman in Toronto. Back then, she was stunned by the news and just brushed it off. Now, however, she seems to know more about the details of the sequel.

In 2013, Ryder hinted about a possible sequel during an interview.

“I’m kind of sworn to secrecy, but it sound like it might be happening. It’s 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia Deetz so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later.”

She also said that she would only be appearing in the sequel if both Keaton and Tim Burton were going to be involved.

US Magazine said that both Tim Burton and Michael Keaton have said that they are interested in doing a second Beetlejuice movie. With more and more people confirming the reboot, it seems that all is set for the sequel. Fans just have to wait for further announcements and more details about the sequel that they have been wanting to see.
