T.I. and Iggy Azalea are officially no longer working together, and their business relationship is essentially over.
The “Whatever You Like” singer said in an interview with New York radio station WQHT-FM Wednesday that he had severed ties with the “Fancy” singer after too much alleged drama, according to the International Business Times.
T.I., whose real name is Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., stopped by the radio show to talk about his new mixtape, but ended up dishing on several other topics, including Azalea.
“After the Q-Tip thing… after I smoothed it over. Everything was cool and then they came back and undid. It’s not that I got tired of cleaning it up… I’m loyal partner and If I rock with you I rock with you. Right or wrong,” T.I. said. “We’ll discuss that later in the car. But right now, I’ma block the bullets, but when I say go… go. Just go. Don’t stand around and talk while I’m blocking bullets. I just feel ‘they’ [Iggy’s team] needed some time to adjust.”
“The world of Iggy Azalea. She is the nucleus, but there are a lot of other pieces around – including myself – that keep that machine working. And I feel like they have all the tools necessary to evolve beyond those situations,” TI added.
The “Q-Tip thing” T.I. is referring to happened when Azalea and Def Jam rapper Q-Tip got in a Twitter battle earlier this year, after Azalea made a comment about “misappropriating black culture.” When Q-Tip heard about her comments, he tried to set her straight. T.I. later defended Azalea over the incident.
“There are some that merely wish to contribute to it. And I’d be less than ME if I didn’t say that… If WE don’t allow u guys the same rights and respect we KNOW WE DESERVE in other areas of humanity… WE’RE ALL JUST A BUNCH OF HYPOCRITES. AND THAT’S NOT HIP HOP!!!!” T.I. wrote at the time.
Following T.I.’s interview, Iggy addressed his comments on Twitter, questioning a publishing deal she thought she still had with him.
“@GlobalGrind word? Could’ve sworn I was still in a publishing deal with him… but go head… you tell it,” she tweeted. Global Grind then suggested she come into their office to talk about it and explain her side of the story, but she responded by saying, “I already clarified it for your whole office floor in one tweet. Sorry, this is where I leave you.”
