Angelina Jolie has a few more tattoos to add to her growing assortment of ink. The actress showed off her new back tattoos while production was underway for her upcoming movie in Cambodia. While Jolie once again appeared alarmingly skinny during the shoot, the only question remaining is whether or not Brad Pitt got matching tattoos to go with his wife’s.
In the photographs released by E! Online , Jolie is seen displaying her new set of tattoos, which go along nicely with the older set on her back. In fact, the Tomb Raider star already had a series of Cambodian writing on her back, and the new ink pretty much rounds out the bare spots, leaving her back with barely any blank spaces.
The new ink looks like it is inspired by Buddhist art that represents love, prosperity, and a peaceful life. That being said, it is not known if the symbols are true yantra art or just inspired by the ancient form of tattoo.
The tattoos are thought to be a fairly recent development, as the actress was spotted back in November and did not have any new work on her back. So far, most of her tattoos are along the same Buddhist themes and appear to have been well thought out before hand.
Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie is currently filming for her upcoming movie First They Killed My Father . The film is being produced by Netflix and centers on the story of a young woman who survived the devastation that occurred in Cambodia as a result of the Pol Pot regime. The movie is based on the 2000 work penned by Loung Ung.
Speaking of her newest movie, Woman’s Day is reporting that Pitt received matching tattoos similar to that of Jolie. Apparently, the couple got their tattoos from a Thai tattoo master named Ajar Noo Kanpai, who just so happens to be the same man who did Jolie’s other tattoos on her back in 2004.
“The tattoos are composed of grids with pyramids at the top… they help to give the wearer protection and health,” an inside source told the outlet.
The tattoos coincided with a special time for Jolie, who just underwent a double mastectomy as she turned 40-years-old. The tattoos, according to the source, were a way for Jolie to deal with her fight with her BRAC1 gene.
“Angelina is a very spiritual person and has long believed her tattoos are more than just designs on her body – that they actually hold some meaning, power and influence over her,” the source explained.
For his part, Pitt got a Buddhist tattoo in support of his wife. Pitt’s tattoo is a traditional Buddhist symbol and was placed on his stomach below another one of his earlier tattoos.
In speaking about his own tattoo work, Ajar stated that he only works with people who live clean and morally upright lives.
“I don’t know if my work has helped Angelina in her life, but I hope so,” he shared. “My tattoos have a great deal of spiritual meaning and significance, so I hope they have blessed her.”
At the same, Jolie recently sat down with Radio Times and discussed how her ink has influenced her life and the lives of her children, who are already questioning her about getting their own set of tattoos.
“They’re already asking me about tattoos,” she stated. “How do I say ‘No’? It’s especially hard for dads and girls. For some reason men get a little more sensitive when the daughter gets a tattoo. And Brad thinks the girls can do no wrong. He’s mush in their hands!”
