Weeks are moving fast, with only seven couples remaining in competition for the Dancing with the Stars mirror ball trophy. At the end of the competition, only one couple can win the trophy, which means that six more couples will be sent home soon.
The teams gathered in the ballroom on Monday, October 17 for the Latin Night, displaying their expertise through Paso Dobles, Argentine Tangos, Cha Chas, and more. Several teams impressed judges with the great improvements they had made in six weeks, while others fell short.
At the top of the leader board for Monday evening were Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko with a score of 10s across the board for their fantastic, wet tango to Selena Gomez’s “Hands to Myself.” Close to them were James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess; Calvin Johnson Jr. and Lindsay Arnold; and Marilu Henner and Derek Hough. However, Amber Rose and Maksim Chmerkovskiy had the lowest score of 28 out of 40, thereby, being sent home.
After the Latin Night, Rose took to Instagram and thanked Maksim for being such a committed friend and teacher. The dancer was grateful for the experience and even more so for having collaborated with him throughout the six weeks. Amber joked that she was going to miss their stressed out rehearsals, adding more gratitude to her partner for never giving up or judging her.
Maksim responded via his own Instagram, referring to their time together as the best weeks he has had on DWTS . The duo promised fans that they would remain lifelong friends despite the fact that their journey for the mirror ball is officially over.
However, it was disillusioning for aficionados when Maksim announced during an interview with Entertainment Tonight that he would not be returning for Dancing with the Stars Season 24 . After being eliminated from the Season 23 cast, the expectant father unveiled that he and fiancé Peta Murgatroyd’s son would be still too young when the next season of DWTS kicks off. He told the source that it wouldn’t be good to leave his fiancé and newborn home for several months to join the cast for Season 24.
“There’s no way! He’s going to be a month and a half old [when the new season starts] and I’m gonna say, ‘OK, I’ll see you in three months buddy?’ No, that’s not gonna happen,” Maksim said.
With Maksim and Rose out of the competition, aficionados are wondering which of the remaining seven couples will go home next. Anything is prone to happen at this stage of the competition, but here are a few guesses about the team that will most likely be sent packing on Monday, October 24:
Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke
Lochte and Cheryl found out on Monday, October 17 that although they had low scores in Week 5, they were safe. The couple then took to the ballroom for a salsa routine, and the Olympian was initially anxious because of the speed involved. The pair managed to get it together, establishing a strong foundation for a good Dancing with the Stars routine, but failed to take it a notch higher.
The duo scored 30 out of 40 points, but they learned from more than one of the four judges that they are improving as the weeks go by. However, there is a lot they are required to do if they plan to stay in the competition.
Maureen McCormick and Artem Chigvintsev
Fans had a chance during Week 6 to look at Maureen and Artem as they worked out for their Samba routine. The Brandy Bunch alum had difficulties nailing down the footwork, which was frustrating for her pro partner.
McCormick promised to remain positive, but the couple only managed to get 31 out of 40 points, which landed them among the bottom four teams. Although this score was higher than those of several other teams, Maureen and Artem constantly receive negative feedback and low scores, which increases the possibility of them being sent packing next Monday.
Terra Jole and Sasha Farber
Terra and Sasha have continued to shock judges and fans every week with fascinating performances of all sorts. However, on Monday October 17, they found themselves in the bottom four teams after a boring Paso Doble. The couple was safe from elimination, but they may find themselves being sent home if they continue struggling.
Fans will find out which of the remaining Dancing with the Stars team will be sent packing on Monday October 24 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
